I had my Australian Shepard put down today. Her name was Sidney, as in the city in Australia. She was 15 Years 3 months.
She had had dementia for the last year or so. For the last year she hadn't been able to control her bowels. She could hold the pee, but number 2 just came when it was ready.
Today when I got home, she couldn't stand up. Her back legs just wouldn't work.
I took her outside and laid her in the nicest part of the grass. She looked peaceful as the wind blew her face.
On the way to the vet, my wife held her up so she could sniff the wind as we drove.
We are having her cremated and the place gives a nice teak box with the ashes, a nice poem, and a plaster of paris paw print. The vet asked what box I wanted. I didn't know they had different boxes, they didn't when her sister passed. They had the standard, or one with hearts. I picked the one with hearts, since my kids named her, the love dog.
She is now in heaven chasing bunnies with her sister (Somersby, also a city in Australia), who passed 3 years ago.
Your prayers are appreciated.
Yes, we all feel the sorrow and hurt when such a one leaves us here.
Sorry for your loss. Went through it in July of this year and last. Will say a prayer for you and your wife that the Lord comfort you both at this time.
Sorry for your loss of Sydney.I know that loseing a family member like that is a very painfull experience since I lost my German Shepard mix to arthritis.
The poor girl got to the point she couldn’t even stand up any longer so we had to put her to sleep.
It hurt like hell.
My hope is that you’ll recover from that pain and find yourself another dog to love and care for.You will always remember Sydney.
I’m so very sorry, occam. It is so hard. I’ll be praying that God Sends you comfort soon.
So sorry to hear of your loss, occamrzr06. Sounds like she had a good life with your family and was very loved.
Sorry to hear this. I know its tough, but you kept the faith. God Bless.
Such a sad event, occamrzr06. Prayers for you and your wife, may your hearts heal and may you never forget the wonderful years with your dog.
My heart goes out to you. I know I’m a cat guy but no matter if it is feline, canine or other, all of our pets are family to us and it hurts us when they leave us. Prayers up for you.
I’m so sorry. We have an old dog and we’re thankful for each day he’s with us. My heart and prayers go out to you for comfort........;(
You know, the world is in flames, with people dying by the thousands and I have read every single one of these posts, and cried over your dog’s photo. Dogs are a gift to us. I’ve had to put several of them down over the years, mostly due to cancer, and they always return to me in my dreams.
Fifteen years... your experiences with that dog will be the measure of a large a chapter of your life.
My condolences on your loss.
I am so sorry.
You are in my prayers tonight.
Huh?
I’m sending condolences from me and hubby.
Hardest thing you ever have to do. My prayers are with you as I sit one the couch with my loyal dog sleeping next to me. The loyalty of a dog is a gift from God. Bless you and your departed dog.
Meet again at Rainbow Bridge.....
I have a whole pack of GSPs awaiting on me.....
Very sorry to hear this. Our pets sure work their way into our hearts, don’t they?
Amen! And the animals never sinned as we did - but all Creation is under the curse of Adam and Eve's sin. But as you and I know DManA, all creation has been groaning under the pain of sin (Romans 8:22).
I remember once watching a program on the horrors and dangers in the natural world. Poisonous snakes, scorpoins, spiders. These were all things that Christ mentioned (and not in a good way). They were never meant to be what they are now - a nightmare to us.
The biological, chemical, and scientific analysis of these creatures is complex, and frightening in their strength.
But, it won't always be that way. Someday, it will all be destroyed (disease, war, death, suffering).
I think animals like dogs were God's gift to us as a reminder that there is still a remnant of good that will be restored.
