You know, the world is in flames, with people dying by the thousands and I have read every single one of these posts, and cried over your dog’s photo. Dogs are a gift to us. I’ve had to put several of them down over the years, mostly due to cancer, and they always return to me in my dreams.
Yes, it is hard to lose a loved one. Pets are family. Fritz was our fourth Rottweiler and we’ve had innumerable other dogs and cats over the years that have come into our lives and then are gone. I think having pets teaches us about compassion and how fleeting life on this earth really is. The best medicine is to get another dog or cat, not to necessarily replace the special one that is gone, but to keep that cycle of life going.
Just before our Fritz passed away, we happened by luck to get a new puppy from a relative who works at a rescue shelter. Even though Fritz is gone, we are well on our way to establishing another familial bond with our new dog, Corky. We live on a farm and he is our constant companion, following us everywhere. Pets are such a joy to have. Our lives would be incomplete without them.
