Fellow Freepers, please pray for a young mother named Debra. Three days ago she suffered placental abruption in her 32nd week of pregnancy. The baby, a little girl, was delivered by c-section and is doing well, but mom is critically ill due to blood loss and organ failure.
Much of this occurred due to some terrible mistakes made in the small town hospital where she delivered her baby, but she has since been flown to an excellent hospital in a nearby city.
She has had her blood replaced 3 times over, has had multiple surgeries, lost 90% of her intestines, is on dialysis, and is facing more surgery in the next few days.
She and her husband have another little girl (4) in addition to the new baby. The grandparents are friends of ours and go to our church.
Please pray! It is a matter of life and death.
Thank you.
Do you have any updates?
Prayers up!
Prayers for God’s blessings on all. And through the intercession of Pope John Paul II may God give her cure.
I knew Freepers were wonderful, loving people, but reading all the responses to my post brought tears to my eyes. You all are amazing. Bless you and thank you for your prayers!
Yes, I do have updates and they are good! Debra had surgery today to reconnect her intestines. She only has about 5 feet of small intestine left, but the doctors say that will be OK. They did not have to remove her spleen as they thought they might, so that is also good news.
While being prepped for surgery, Debra was awake and responsive. She even frowned when she was tired of her husband’s rubbing her forehead. The nurse said she had never been so thrilled to see someone frown before.
The doctors told Debra’s family that her blood volume has been replaced 12 times! It truly is a miracle that she has survived all this, and I have no doubt it is attributable to God’s mercy and the power of prayer.
The baby is doing well, and her grandmother brought her older sister to see her because the little girl wanted to sing to her new baby sister. I hope they let mom and baby see and touch each other soon, too, because I think that would be beneficial for both.
Debra is still a very sick lady. Her kidneys are not functioning and she is on dialysis. Pray that will not have to be permanent and that her kidneys will heal. After the surgery to repair Debra’s intestines, the doctors put her on a stomach tube for feeding. She also has had some severe swelling in one arm, but they have that under control for now.
Thank you all so much for your prayers and concern for Debra and the family and please keep praying! Freepers are the best!
