Contending that obesity is a bigger threat than Islamic terror, White House chef and food initiative coordinator Sam Kass says that combating this threat will be a major focus of the presidents second term.
Lets face it, too many of us are too darn fat, Kass observed. Given the opportunity to freely choose their own diets a distressingly large percentage consistently make the wrong choices. Preventing these wrong choices is crucial to the collective health and well-being of our society.
Of course, preventing wrong choices is a daunting task in a free country. Kass hinted that indoctrinating youth would be one way to make this happen. In the First Ladys Lets Move program Ive seen kids dancing and cheering for vegetables, Kass remembered. Getting adults to join in is the next step. For those skeptical about the prospect of adults dancing and cheering for vegetables, Kass pointed out that they do it in China.
Kass declined to speculate on whether a so-called fat tax might be enacted, but argued that it could be very persuasive. If youve got to pay more for every pound of blubber you add youll think twice about having a cheese burger or a dessert, Kass maintained. In my opinion, issuing an Executive Order imposing such a tax is something President Obama should consider.

Too bad a lot of Obama’s supporters don’t know that. A lot of them would be affected.
Actually ping to post 18.
I don’t see any satire ....
These people are serious. They truly believe that someone being fat is not their own responsibility but the federal governments.
“People have heard the advice to eat less and move more for years, and during that time a large number of Americans have become obese,” IOM committee member Shiriki Kumanyika of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine told Reuters. “That advice will never be out of date. But when you see the increase in obesity you ask, what changed? And the answer is, the environment. The average person cannot maintain a healthy weight in this obesity-promoting environment.” http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2881373/posts?page=1

Study: Blacks are nation's most obese group
Nearly 36 percent of black Americans are obese much more than other major racial or ethnic groups and that gap exists in most states, a new federal study finds.
About 29 percent of Hispanics and 24 percent of whites are obese, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday. Overall, about 26 percent of U.S. adults are obese.
What percentage of black Americans are obese?
In the US, blacks have the highest rate of overweight at 78% and of obesity at 50.8%.
'Cept that ain't happening. Big smack-down coming Nov 6th 2012.
Though satire....
With the price of food .....fighting obesity should be a snap....for this administration
He will have people’s BMI microchipped into everything they try to do. He will decree people to be thin. He will institute fat bashing while creating a capital crime for homophobia.
Mitt Romney has never looked so good.
Haven’t read the study but I have to think if you take those over, say, 35, those percentages will be higher by a scary bit.
I wonder if that applies to overweight people like Donald Driver, Ryan Braun and Aaron Rodgers or just obese people like Clay Matthews.
BMI is a poor measurement tool.
Hey, that is my favorite. Very low carb.
There ain’t Gona be no second term
It's actually a very good tool. Yes, it does not make sense for 15-20% of the population (Arnold S would be considered fat in his prime). It was developed to see what the trends where over a period of time for a broad based swath of the population and it does that very well.
I am pro-choice.
I eat what I choose.
Keep your laws off of my body.
Donald Driver and Aaron Rodgers are overweight?
Yup.
He could easily drop 250 lbs right there.
AT LEAST.
