There are those who love freedom of expression, as long as it’s not conservatives who are doing the expressing. Just ask Glenn Beck. On radio Tuesday, he told the stunning story of how he and his family were harassed during an outdoor movie in New York City’s Bryant Park.
For those unfamiliar with Bryant Park, it hosts weekly showings of classic films during the summer months. Attendees bring blankets and picnic dinners and sprawl out on the park’s great lawn while watching the films on a giant screen.
As Beck explained, he attended Monday night‘s public showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The 39 Steps” with his wife and daughter. During the film, he was ridiculed, had someone “kick a cup” of wine on his wife and on his blanket, and even witnessed another person stand up and yell, “We hate conservatives here!”
“These people were some of the most hateful people I have ever seen,” Beck said. “All I wanted to do is go out on a blanket with my family and have dinner in the afternoon sun and sit around Americans, not like-minded Americans, and just watch a movie in the park. And last night at about‑‑ when the movie was just about over, my wife and I got out because it was hostile.”
Later, when Beck left near the end of the movie, the crowd applauded.

Beck is an over-the-top entertainer. Problem is that, within all of the hype and hyperbole, there are some excellent ideas and observations.
IMHO, the facts are scary enough. The hyperbolic scaremongering just dilutes his message.

I lived in Manhattan once, before my conservative days. If it’s anything like I remember it (and I assume it’s worse), there’s no reason why any conservative in his right mind would want to live there, unless perhaps as a missionary. Beck is obviously up to no good.
For a while there, I succumbed to the GB mystique and alarm. However, his two personnas, the on-air FOX GB and the radio GB are Mr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as far as I’m concerned. His alarmist Fox personna seemed genuine and real while his sillyass bantering with whomever co-hosts with him makes me think both (all) are completely effing nuts. I finally resolved to decide for myself from now on. I don’t need him or his ‘team’ to alert me...I can see it for myself, firsthand.
Its New York City, they would vote for Al-Quieta. Expecting civility from them is not going to happen.

But, gee, Beck, there's a price for celebrity. You didn't deserve that, but--there's a price.
And each time we do they get more emboldened. Sometimes I feel it would be worth a few hours in jail just to pop one in the face.

I agree with you. He should not dwell among the idiots without some protection. He should move out of the cesspool of NY and go where there are like minded individuals. Without the taxes that wealthy folks like him pay in NY, the liberal progressives wouldn’t have a park to go see a concert.

You think Beck is up to no good? Who made you God and able to know his intention? He has a right to live where he wants and is entitled to pursue the line of work he wants. Maybe you would be up to no good if you lived there, but he is not you.
