Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?
one man's opinion...

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:07:08 PM PDT by ken5050

As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.

Like it or not, Romney is a serious threat for the nomination.

Yup; to hear him and the media say it.

But they don't get many VOTES; do they.

And there is no getting away from the fact that registered Republicans as a whole are not nearly as conservative as Freepers.

Amen to THIS!

And there is no getting away from the fact that registered Republicans as a whole are not nearly as conservative well informed as Freepers.

Many of whom come from tiny congregations. And the reason for that is obvious...

There's a great description in one of Garrison Keillor's books (he was a fine entertainer back in the days when he kept his politics under his hat) about growing up in the Church of the Brethren, and the continued fracturing of what once was a large congregation into smaller and smaller splinters as each in turn discovered heresy within its leadership.

A description I have often thought of while listening to FR's harpies lecture the rest of us on our many errors.

They also remind me of the young George III, of whose religious faith it was said that "he is ever diligent in the attention he devotes to the sins of his neighbor."

not nearly as conservative well informed as Freepers.

Either description works for me.

It's a common trap here to assume that Freeper Opinion = American Grassroots Opinion or at least = Republican Voter Opinion.

And it is seriously wrong, as President Thompson and Vice President Hunter found out when the Secret Service wouldn't let them into their offices.

So anyone who climbs on an FR soapbox and hollas “I’ll ___________ if Mitt is the nominee!!” should consider that he may well have to live up to those words.

Largely a group of harmless, humorous, yet colorless dingbats here on FR. Many of whom come from tiny congregations. And the reason for that is obvious...

Well, we got McCain in 2008, who was not a millimeter more conservative than Romney.

And by the time my primary came around there was no one left but the rino trio, Mitt, McCain and Huck. All the candidates that Freepers loved were long gone.

McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, amnesty and the "Gang of 14" are enough for me to categorize McCain as being at least as bad if not worse than Romney.

In fact I consider McCain-Feingold to be the worst piece of legislation since the income tax, and certainly worse even than Obamacare.

Romney is heavy for AMNESTY also

“we need a patrhway to citizenship” and “we cant send them all back”

also he knowing kept on hiring illegal aliens for years after he had been told about a company

His smoozing and kissinbg up to the hispanic illegal aliens during 2008 was sickening

BTW i voted for Sarah not McCain

I struggled at the polls for some time and finally held my nose

I will NEVER vote for the murderous Williard Mitt Romney, liberal

The blood dripping from his hands represents thousands of innocent babies

There are few issues that place Romney over in the Conservative column

Is this the first time you ‘fessed up to voting for McCain? Odd, I don’t recall that. Gee, guess we DO have common ground. I deemed it only quick sand..

I find Islam to be equally colorless. However, it is harmFULL and humorLESS. In contrast to you good folks, whom I enjoy thoroughly.
