Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?
one man's opinion...

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:07:08 PM PDT by ken5050

As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.

The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.

However, in Oklahoma; it’s ALL ‘plain’!

(Well; there IS Black Mesa, but that may as well be Texas!)

Wouldn’t know. Been through Oklahoma twice: once on the way to California, and once on the way back from the already then crumbling liberal cesspool that California was in the mid-sixties. Stopped for gas both directions I was drivin’ and on the way back from leftafornia thought Oklahoma was heaven back then, but I was on my way back to God’s country in the Smokies.

And for ken5050's encore performance, he'll next post a vanity in which he'll try to censor all terrorist-related threads from not mentioning Muslims!

have called some very dear Mormon women friends. Nobody can tell me they were not Christians. I know a Christian when I see one. God tells me who Christians are and I trust him.

Do you know what makes a person a Christian?

And when was the last time you read the bible?

"For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve."

Even liberal organizations like the National and World Council of Churches don't recognize mormonism as Christian.

Please cite source. Thank you.

Every Mormon I’ve ever met has been a kind, responsible person. The negativity people express is counterproductive and the opposite of Christianity

(Hey, when you're auditioning to become a "god" as a Mormon leader proclaimed "god-in-embryo," ya better be on your best behavior!)

You can be pro God without being a scripture quoting parrot.I do not equate pro God and bible thumping zealots.Bible thumpers wear thier faith on thier sleeve like ornaments on a tree.

FR needs a cult category for comments about mormons

AS if cultists don't run major media outlets like the Washington Times (Sun Myung Moon + Christian Science Monitor)...
...or influence TV network dance competitions (Scientologists & Kirstie Alley)...
...or predict May 21st doomsdays (Camping)...
...or run for POTUS (Romney, Huntsman)...
...or head up the Dems in Congress (Harry Reid)...
...etc.

Why, of course. Newspapers must have their own cult sections. (So FR should, too, eh?)

The innovative "brilliance" of some FREEPER suggestions sometimes underwhelms me!

I’m reminded of the old Anglican scenario ... every British Anglican has a bible on their coffee table/tea table, but to open it and read it, well, let’s not go fanatical shall we!

The acrimony on this topic is one of the less attractive things about FR.

(Said Tijeras_Slim acrimoniously, adding to the acromonious environment!)

I believe that LDS is considered by management as an anti-Christian religion, making it fair game on all threads.

I believe that LDS considers ALL non-LDS religions as "apostate" religions...making them fair game for a response no matter what "site management" policy is or might be!

I'm for keeping all the religious threads out of “latest news”.

Oh, sovereign one, FR has been awaiting your coming. Up until now, we had no way of knowing your perfect hermetically-sealed boundary of knowing 100% exactly where "religion" ends and "news" begins! (Where have you been?)

Why don’t you start a thread titled, “Why I disagree with the Mormons” or “Why I hate Joe Smith”? Then you can “speak your mind” till you’re blue in the face.

Why don't you and Ken5050 run a series of vanities called, "Why I disagree with posters posting stuff I don't approve of on FR posts"? Then you both can "speak your mind" til you're red, white and blue in the face!

There is available the Religion Forum. All discussions about religion should belong in the Religion Forum!

Oh, yet another sovereign one we've been waiting for!

Up until your coming, we weren't sure where "religion" 100% ended and news that "transcended" religion began!

But with your omniscience -- and your perfectly drawn hermetically-sealed boundaries -- we can live with this newly drawn "paradise" on earth.

Where have you been? We've been in the fog without you!
