To all:
My loving wife is currently in the hospital with a blood clot in her left lung. Her prognosis is good, we caught it just in the nick of time, but she is a bit down about the situation and obviously being on the hospital is never a good thing.
I'm requesting prayer for my wife as she pulls through this bump in the road. She's a great wife and mother (she'd have to be to put up with me to say the least), and she could really use it.
Prayers for youe wife to have a rapid recovery.
Thank you so much for updates, prayers continue FRiend.
Prayers for your wife.
Prayers for God’s blessings on all.
Mike, Prayers for your family
Thank you very much for the updates. Prayers continue.
thank you all for the continued prayers, they are having an effect....my wife’s spirits are very high and she’s starting to get some energy back and isn’t out of breath all the time like she had been the previous two days.
We still don’t quite know when she’ll get out of the hospital, but the pain (from the clots and the medicine to break them down) has lessened and they are stepping her off of the super pain meds to slightly-less super pain meds.
Hopefully here soon her blood work will show enough improvement that we can start thinking about bringing her home.
I’d like to again personally thank everyone who has sent a prayer or a good thought her way. My wife is a very special person and a great mom to our kids. She has told me that she is very very grateful to everyone for the thoughts and prayers and it’s been very uplifting to her even though she’s been frustrated with the process so far.
Can you ping to the prayer warriors? This is a note from a friend: People have been asking about Spencer and we appreciate all their thoughts. I am sending this message to you to send on to those you think would appreciate knowing. Marlena posted this on Facebook for friends and family and it pretty much explains all that we know.
Spencer 4, was born with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This rare condition, and iin it’s simpliest explanation, causes the body’s mucas to be thickier than normal. This, in turn, wreaks havoc on several parts/systems. Spencer’s lungs, pancreas and liver do not function normal, but up to this point this has all been successfully treated with medications.
Our primary concern is keeping him free of bugs, viruses and a few bad bacteria. Bacteria that would not affect people who do not have CF can be potentialy life-threatening to those who do have it.
It the scheme of bacteria there are three biggies for Spencer. We have cultured the worst- B. cepacia - Once it enters the body, there are three possible effects and it is not possible to predict which will happen. Sometimes B. cepacia colonizes in the lungs, causes no symptoms, and has no long term effect. Other times B. cepacia colonizes in the lungs and causes damaging lung infections and inflammation that lead to a slow deterioration of lung function. In the worst case scenario, B. cepacia can spread throughout the body causing cepacia syndrome, which leads to a rapid deterioration of lung function. Cepacia syndrome is a serious condition that does not always respond well to treatment. Unfortunately, even with proper treatment, cepacia syndrome can lead to death within a few weeks.
In the history of the Cystic Fibrosis clinic in Seattle, no one has ever cultured this strain.
So- we are here, treating Spencer with antibiotics via IV and inhaled directly into the lungs. The bacteria was detected via standard test so we believe we caught this early. The doctors are cautiously optimistic, at best, they can erridicate this bacteria.
We are in strict isolation at childrens. Spencer will be treated for at least two weeks, but we may be able to go home and finish treatm

The parents are undoubtedly at wit's end right now, but let me give you something to pass on.
They're making tremendous progress with this disease -- new and better treatments every year. And it's not a death sentence.
I have an 8th grade kid on my lacrosse team who has CF -- and he's one of my stars. I know a family who has two girls with CF -- both have graduated from college (with honors).
CF is not easy -- people who have it, have to deal with it all the time. But there are so many examples of people who do OK, just the same.... there's hope!
