Talk radio host off the air after rallying listeners to run for Senate (Dan Fagan in Alaska)
Alaska Dispatch ^ | 10/29/10 | Joshua Saul

Dan Fagan, the conservative talk show host who lately spends much of his three-hour radio show slamming U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and extolling the virtues of Republican Joe Miller, has been yanked off the air.

About halfway through Fagan's show Thursday afternoon, a caller phoned in to say he had just registered as a write-in candidate in the Senate race, which includes Miller, Murkowski, and Democrat Scott McAdams. The caller's provocation -- and the reason Fagan liked the idea -- was the fact that the Division of Elections has been providing voters who ask with a list of the write-in candidates. By flooding that list with everyone from Michael Ames to Kathy Jo Zurek, the thinking goes, Murkowski's name will be harder to find.

"I said that's a great idea, more people should do that," Fagan said Friday. Fagan gave the addresses of the Anchorage and Wasilla offices of the Division of Elections and urged his listeners to drive over and register as write-in candidates.

Fagan said a member of the Murkowski campaign called his general manager, Dennis Bookey, to say that Fagan had been electioneering and should be taken off the air. Fagan said Bookey said he was off the air today and they would evaluate the situation Monday.

Fagan broadcasts on KFQD 750, which is owned by Morris Communications, a media company headquartered in Georgia.

"Bottom line is that Lisa Murkowski is a very powerful person, and she has succeeded in taking me off the air the Friday before the election," Fagan said. "It's impressive."

But while Fagan is positive Murkowski is behind his getting yanked, the Murkowski campaign said they didn't have anything to do with it, according to Murkowski spokesman Steve Wackowski.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

I’ll bet if this was California or New York, it’d still be in BN.

Here’s my last comment from the other thread:

I’ll be 52 in a couple months. Since I was a teen, my dream was to move to Alaska. I have been all in for Alaska for almost 40 years. Life has an interesting way of planning our path. I’m still in Wisconsin, still dreaming of the day I’ll move there.

That said, your politics, did Chicago copy you, or did you copy Chicago? This woman needs to go. I hope the ground game is on top of this. I’m going to podcast Fagan’s show. God speed to Alaska.

KENI with Rydell and Pocaro are in the tank for murkowski. Now they want Dan to roll over too. Must be a lot of money going around in the radio business. This is a moment of clarity in Alaska. Phoney republicans and true conservatives are coming forward. Kind of good to know who’s who. With Dan and Glen Biegel gone the murkowski fuhrer will rule the air.

You could sure be right, but I think Murky the evil, just wants him off the air until AFTER TUESDAY, and then permanently when she loses, but she’ll also lose her power come January.

Too bad she was permitted to have her addressed printed on the page, which makes her easier to find.

First let me say that I was on my way to Alaska from when I was a boy.

I didn’t get here until thirty years ago, and it was worth the effort imo.

Not that living here is anything like I pictured it for all of those years.

So I’m on your side, just keep at it and it’ll happen if it’s supposed to.

As to our politics vs Chi town politics.

It really funny you should compare Alaska to Chi town, because my step father who was a seventy year Alaska resident, and who has gone on before us, ALWAYS said that if you want to understand Alaska State politics just look at Chicago politics.

My mere thirty years here have convinced me that this is 100% true.

The only exception in my time here was Governor Palin, who took on the old boy establishment here and WON, and they STILL hate her for that.

I guess that it is the nature of this place?

It’s HUGE in area but tiny in population. It seems like everybody knows everybody else here sometimes.

Princess LiZa is GONE, she just doesn’t know it, YET.

Btw there are alot of folks here who originally came from Wisconsin!

Best to you and yours.

I totally agree that one of the best things about this entire mess is that it has sorted the goats from the sheep.

Rydell and Porcaro and KENI are FRAUDS. They have been 100% in the bag for princess LiZa the entire time.

While KBYR and KFQD and Glen Biegel and Dan Fagan have PROVEN that they are REAL Conservatives and rule of LAW folks.

Don’t forget that Porcaro runs an ad agency and he SURE knows which side of the toast is buttered, Rydell is just a gibbering FRAUD imo.

“KENI with Rydell and Pocaro are in the tank for murkowski” Truer words have never been spoken. There is a cadre of old school country-club republicans up here that see nothing wrong with stealing the lively hood of other Americans to finance their pet government projects. The arrogance of these two has risen to the point that I cannot bear to listen to them any longer. These two are indignant that the Republican Party chose an ordinary Alaskan as its candidate rather than a truth bending aristocrat of the ruling class.

“Btw there are alot of folks here who originally came from Wisconsin!”

Back in the ‘30’s, they wanted to expand Alaska, so they offered people from Minnesota and Wisconsin to relocate there. Similar climate and all. I don’t remember what the offer was, but, Alaska is tied to us and we to them. Plus, my dad is from Canada, his dad from Iceland, his mom’s family is from Ukraine. I guess it’s genetic.

Have you read James Michener’s historical novel “Alaska”? It’s a really good recount of Alaska’s history.

I can almost understand how Alaska would ‘adopt’ Chicago politics, being so ripe for the ‘old boys’ club. It’s almost incestuous.

BTW, how are northern midwest transplants received there?

Murky Murkowski and her aide, Wacko Wackowski....

You couldn't make up things like this.

Oh, wait.....Polish jokes are politically incorrect now, darn it.

That ‘30’s program you speak of was the Matanuska project and it happened.

OUR borough, (the Matanuska-Susitna borough), is a direct result of those pioneers who founded Palmer.

As long as you are an Alaskan in attitude and respect the country Alaskans welcome you.

If you are a clown, well they show up in the summer and get real busy telling us how screwed up we and Alaska are, then they are gone for good usually by Christmas.

Talk is cheap in the summer.

Winter ALWAYS sorts em out.

I quit listening to Rydell in the morning. He says he is neutral but you can hear the smirk in his voice when he voice when he talks about Miller.

What happened to Glen Biegel?

Did the sore loser really get the RULES changed for write-in candidates after breaking them herself? Is this true? Isn’t THAT was Fagan was mocking? She is a piece of work-sounds like a bad apple. Spoiled. Rotten. And mean.

Glen is still holding on as far as I know. Have been outside this week. My point was that “if” Glen and Dan could be silenced by the dark queen, she would do it.

I don’t see a problem with encouraging citizen civic involvement

EXCELLENT POINT !!

SOMEONE SHOULD FORWARD THIS TO THE RADIO STATION AND TO THE SUSPENDED RADIO HOST.
