“Btw there are alot of folks here who originally came from Wisconsin!”
Back in the ‘30’s, they wanted to expand Alaska, so they offered people from Minnesota and Wisconsin to relocate there. Similar climate and all. I don’t remember what the offer was, but, Alaska is tied to us and we to them. Plus, my dad is from Canada, his dad from Iceland, his mom’s family is from Ukraine. I guess it’s genetic.
Have you read James Michener’s historical novel “Alaska”? It’s a really good recount of Alaska’s history.
I can almost understand how Alaska would ‘adopt’ Chicago politics, being so ripe for the ‘old boys’ club. It’s almost incestuous.
BTW, how are northern midwest transplants received there?
That ‘30’s program you speak of was the Matanuska project and it happened.
OUR borough, (the Matanuska-Susitna borough), is a direct result of those pioneers who founded Palmer.
As long as you are an Alaskan in attitude and respect the country Alaskans welcome you.
If you are a clown, well they show up in the summer and get real busy telling us how screwed up we and Alaska are, then they are gone for good usually by Christmas.
Talk is cheap in the summer.
Winter ALWAYS sorts em out.
