Many of us appreciated the President mentioning in his State of the Union address that tough decisions had to be made regarding offshore drilling. People have had doubts about his seriousness in regards to domestic energy policy because our Department of the Interior dragging its feet on Virginias offshore oil and gas leases. Still, weve held out hope that Americas voice will be heard on energy.
And now Vince Haley at Big Government reports this shocker:
In April of 2009, during a discussion about offshore exploration in San Francisco, Salazar said that President Obama directed him to to make sure that we have an open and transparent government and that these are not decisions that are going to be made behind closed doors. Salazar went on to say that President Obama wanted to make sure that DOI was maximizing the opportunity for the public to give us guidance on what it is that they want to do.
Yet, more than four months after the comment period ended, the Department of the Interior has failed to make any public announcement about the results, even though sources have told American Solutions for months the comments show a 2-1 advantage in support of offshore drilling.
It took American Solutions almost four months and the power of the Freedom of Information Act to finally uncover indirect confirmation that, out of over 530,000 comments submitted, pro-drilling comments outnumbered anti-drilling comments by a 2-1 margin.
In an email dated October 27, 2009, Liz Birnbaum, director of the Minerals Management Service, informs other Interior officials that a preliminary tabulation of the results of the comment period had not yet gone to Secretary Salazar, adding [s]o the Secretary can honestly say in response to any questions that hes [SIC] has not yet seen the analysis of the comments staff is still working on it. I did, however, confirm to him the 2-1 split that these guys [at American Solutions] are emphasizing.
When a public employee is on record condoning purposeful deception of the American people, the taxpayer should no longer have to fund his or her job. Secretary Salazar should immediately fire Liz Birnbaum for purposefully deceiving him, and in turn, the American people. Its not possible for the Secretary to honor pledges of openness, honestly, and transparency in government if his staff is going to deliberately undermine such pledges.
Public opinion polls already measure near 70% support for offshore drilling, so the results from a public comment period that reflect the same public sentiment should not be surprising. But after all this talk of wanting the publics input, Secretary Salazar and his team must find it a real stumbling block to have to explain all their anti-energy development actions in light of the comment period results to which they previously attached such great importance.
As Haley notes in his article, its astonishing that the Obama administration is dragging its feet on offshore drilling at a time when were so desperate for economic recovery and jobs. Its no surprise that an overwhelming majority of Americans support offshore drilling: it will provide millions of good jobs and billions in revenue, and it will make us more secure by reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
Mr. President, we appreciate you asking for our input. Weve provided it, so thank you for accepting it. With no time to waste, its time to listen to the American people finally and drill, baby, drill!
- Sarah Palin
Barry X doesn’t want your feedback.
I hope Sarah Palin doesn’t run for, and win the GOP nomination.
Sarah Palin WILL NOT win an election for the Presidency of the United States, especially since she won’t have a media machine backing her as 0bama did.
She isn’t ‘presidential material’. A would be president doesn’t quit their job as governor. I hope she sticks to writing books, and being a conservative activist. That’s where she is most helpful. If she runs for, and gets the nomination, it would be a suicide pact that will give us four more years of 0bama.
Don’t get me wrong.. I DO like her, I just don’t think she is fit to be president.
/flames away
What you are talking about makes sense. That is foreign investment to these. We may say drill baby, Drill! They are lie baby Lie!
Who do you like KoRn?
No flaming here. You’re as right as rain.
Yep, he is against offshore drilling on our coast, but for bankrolling a Commie in Brazil (Lula) to the tune of 10-12 Billion dollars through our Export/Import Bank. (One of his menions was this past summer appointed as the new President of the Bank).
This was an obvious payoff to Lula for supporting the ousted President Zelaya in Honduras. It was no accident that he holed-up in the Brazilian Embassy.
Obozo only backed away from that mess when it became apprent his true intentions would be exposed.
—
I have family in Midland that have been in oil exploration for 40 years and told me recently that there are people in the business here with the money (no financing necessary) who are not allowed to drill offshore here.
This is TREASON.
Obozo is a Traitor.
Sadly, no one that I've seen thus far. I liked FRed last time, but he only helped McCrazy once the campaign got underway.
Please define what Presidential Material means other than a penis...
And while you are giving us your criteria for presidential material, by all means tell us who you supported for president in 2012, and I’m tired of the weasels attacking Palin not answering the question... And I strongly suspect you will be a weasel, because you don’t want to admit that you’re a rino lover.
With all the resources for energy available in this Nation the only reason for there to be the outrageous problems as we have today are due the artificial Political obstacles placed strategically by the same Leftist idealogues that seek this Nation’s demise to further their collective, Socialist goals.
There is no other reason, therefore the Leftist influence by Democrats, and RINO’s in our Government has to be eliminated.
November 2010 appears to be a very good time to start the process.
Ditto.
Thats just it, there is NO ONE that is taking him on like Palin. She is fighting by herself. I dont know if she can win a general election but at least right now she is speaking up. I dont like Huckabee at all, not Romney, maybe someone like Sheriff Arapio will be runner (a girl could dream)
Zer0 showing symptoms of long years addicted to Marxism: Tone deafness to Capitalism, eyes closed to this nation's greatness, and mouth closed to the voice of freedom.
Go to hell jerk!
It’s the Rubber Room Crowd.
Save it.
Perhaps, you are not fit to decide who is fit to be President.
Sarah Palin supporters ping.
You are entitled to your opinion.
I like Mrs. Palin, and she is fit/qualified to be President. Not only in comparison to the Community Organizer, but qualified. Whether she chooses to run or not is up to her. The legion of DNC Flying Monkeys who comprise the MSM, will brutalize her worse than they ever did to 'W' - but they're doing that already, so I don't know if that's much of a threat... And of course, if anyone in her family (probably extending out to 2nd cousins) does anything wrong - it will be plastered on the front pages... Heckuva a burden - but satan's minions don't go away quietly...
You're the most entertainment I've had all day. lol
Many thanks for the good laugh.
but you will vote for Sarah if she is the nominee, right?
i understand not wanting to back anyone now. But i dont understand being so negative about someone who should have a major role in elections. she has proven star power and would help get out votes. I like SP #1, but i will vote for mitt if i have to. BHO is likely to be a chewed ragdoll by Nov 2012, any R will win.
I suppose that’s why the RINO wing wants this one so bad. They know too that any R will be shoo-in so they sure as heck dont want SP, it’s not “her turn”.
