Hearing a lot lately about how the Catholic Church is supporting liberal causes. Are these real or just another attack on the Catholics?

First Church of Christ Congregational was the main target. The Catholic church and others have backed off.

Historically Catholics have supported liberal fiscal policy and have been very pro union.

Liberation theology, of which Jeremiah Wright's black liberation theology is an offshoot, is historically Catholic, primarily in Central America.

otoh the Church was strongly antiCommunist in the 50s and 60s. And John :aul helped to defeat Communism and curbed liberation theology.

That's what I was hoping to find out. I think it's just another attack, but maybe some of the folks I'm pinging can tell us more.

The Headline is in complete error. It is the United Church of Christ that is/ was making this effort.
The Catholics (USCCB) have a seperate statement that they are making, the Vidio makes it very clear.

I’ve spoken to a missionary out of Peru. I always thought there was a large Catholic influence in South America. He sees Catholics churches built on top of the historical worship sites. Many of them worship Mary instead of Jesus.

Yes, I am Catholic and get disturbed at SOME Priests’ activism in liberal causes.

I was sitting in church in Phoenix where the Priest was whipping up the congregation to open the borders and let in anyone that wants to be in the United States. Afterwards, I asked him “Who is going to pay for all these peoples’ healthcare, education, and the crimes that are committed?”

Typical liberal response: a condescending smile as if I was the problem, not the felons who break the law, commit horrid crimes, take jobs away from US citizens, etc.

"Lou Dobbs talks to Jeffrey Lord from the American Spectator, and why he is against an effort by the Catholic Church to bring down talk radio and hosts like Rush Limbaugh. Must see!!!!"

Just did read of Dobb's leaving the Confused Crazy Network. Even read a few *comments* by the last remaining nut-balls the NYSlimes has celebrating Lou's departure.

But what's this about the Catholic Church?
What're they allegedly trying to do?
"Take down" Talk Radio????

Wagglebee my friend, what's going on here?

They are real. I walked out the other day. The priest said we should support the Health care for illegal immigrants. No one cares if they take away care for Seniors and the people deemed a burden on society.

He never mentioned not to support the bill if it supported abortion. Everyone knows it will be back in when the Senate finishes with the bill.

I'm beginning to see how Hitler was able to take over Germany. We need to protest the Church's stand on social justice. I'm beginning to think we should protest the bishops. We need our voices heard.

There were a few other Churches mentioned. I didn't hear the whole exchange. I think he said the Catholic Church backed down, but I was shocked that they wanted to censure talk radio in the first place.

Anyone hear the whole exchange?

we're supposed to also be dead set against abortion and homosexual marriage.....

but as anyone can see, the Catholic elites pick and choose which things they want to champion....( I say that as a Catholic, but admittedly not a very good one)

frankly, we've stopped going to church....I can't be a part of a group that promotes abortion advocates with abandon, at the same time telling me that I should give more to the church and the poor and anyone else who asks....

Teddy Kennedy's funeral was obscene.....he should have been denounced all these years for his philandering ways and his abortion stance...

the priest should know that we honest Americans work very hard and pay taxes so we might be able to retire in grace sometime, and to help our kids and grandkids along....

the illegals do not pay taxes....they are essentially stealing my future and my legacy.

Maybe the way to protest is with our money. I quit giving to the Catholic Church. I still give to Covenant House, but I haven't figured out why they aren't included in the overall causes for Catholic Charities.

They used to give to Acorn. Supposedly, they stopped, but I don't know if they are giving to one of Acorn's susidary.

We need to let them know why we quit giving money to Catholic causes.

Like Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the Democratic leadership, they “believe” that Anglos making over $250k should share their wealth with illegals, minorities and other freeloaders.

Once Obama, Pelosi and Reid move into a two bedroom apartment and donate their wealth to liberal causes, I will consider sharing my wealth voluntarily.

Exactly right.

Many liberal Catholics, who pick and choose what they want to believe in, are getting more press these days.

Those that follow the teachings of the church know that socialism eventually strips the dignity and individual freedom of man.

Any talks given by Archbishop Fulton Sheen clearly shows how sound Catholic theology opposes socialism.

Nothing is stopping you from writing to your bishops to complain. That could get better results than anything.

OTOH, I want to see this “statement” before I make any decisions. Off to search..

Many of them worship Mary instead of Jesus.

Simply not true. As a Catholic I have never heard of any Catholic worshipping Mary instead of Jesus. If they do they are not following the teachings of the church.

We honor Mary as the mother of Jesus, but do not put her in place of our Lord.

To honor Mary pleases Jesus, her son.

Blessings to you!

Afterwards, I asked him “Who is going to pay for all these peoples’ healthcare, education, and the crimes that are committed?”

A better question would have been "So you don't mind if a family or two take up residence in the rectory, washing the windows, mowing the lawn and emptying the refrigerator?".

“Simply not true. As a Catholic I have never heard of any Catholic worshipping Mary instead of Jesus. If they do they are not following the teachings of the church.”

It is true, I believe they call themselves Maryologists or something to that effect.

Please don’t take this as an attack on Catholics, that was not my intent. My intent was to show how misguided some are and will use faith to push their cause.
