I am so grieved by the travesty that occurred this evening in Washington. I am saddenned and extremely concerned for the future of our country and am looking for a way to express it.
Whatever happened to the activism of the 80s?! I remember seeing news coverage of groups of people picketing with "throw the bums out" signs, sending tea bags to Washington, the term limits and divided government concepts being debated on talking-heads shows.
Are any organizations leading the charge here? I know there are Freeps in Washington, but there has to be something we here in fly-over country can do--and I am sick of calling dem staffers who could care less about my views.
I came up with several ideas---flying flag upside down, sending tea bags to Washington, some sort of ribbon or bumper sticker campaign
--somehow conservatives need to start building momentum to mitigate this disaster. Any ideas/thots

<<<I am but one on this thread and just want to discuss, see where it goes. I want to be clear, that I am frustrated by the following:
1. The lack of awareness/education people in the middle around the country—need to know what they have allowed to happen. This includes everyone from seniors to students. We are all impacted by what happened yesterday :(I want a symbol—tea bags glasses, bumpersticker or flag (John Galt, upside down flag, stars, don’t tread flag, whatever is most appropriate and I am most comfortable with).
2. I want to send message of my intense total displeasure with Washington’s lack of care to even bother READING the bill before voting (is there a lawsuit in the offing...?); the insult that they would think I would buy the sham that porkulus actually will stimulate the economy any time soon, and my my anger that I am not represented, etc. to Washington. I would also like to send message to MSM, their sponsors, etc. See my post about comments to Chicago (Liberal) Trib.
I am hoping many will join in that effort—with what they are comfortable with in terms of decals, flags, etc.
3. I want to let Washington know that I am watching what they are doing from now on. I will remember. Hopefully some who are asleep at the wheel will wake up when this stuff starts being instituted.
4. I want to DO something—all that it takes for evil to triumph is good men (and women) to do nothing. I want to get off the computer and do something. But I don’t want to do something beyond a Freep or march; a PEACEFUL demonstration or Freep of my senator’s office or Washington if I could. Emphasis on Peaceful.
If a group is forming, good. If a group exists, better. That this is “official,” activity, not sure, I just posed the question. I just know that like the movie Network, I am frustrated and mad as He**, and I don’t want to take it anymore.
Should have added, I am going to Pray (like I never have before) for the future of this country—especially the future of my children and their children. One of my biggest fears is that someday in the not-too-distant future, I will be sitting in a rocker and my grand children will come up to me and say, tell me what the USA used to be like when it was a Republic founded on the Constitution and Capitalism. :(
Hopefully the day will not come when you are not allowed to wave a flag (Tread on me or otherwise) at an intersection. Tho who knows what’s in the stimulus bill as no one has even READ it :(
Just want to clarify - you prefer the rattlesnake flag with the stripes, rather than the one on the collapsible flag pole?
I think this is a good idea.

Freedoms first has recently received permission to hold our protest in Washington DC. Our protest will now be held at the lincoln Memorial Reflections Pool in front of the Lincoln memorial ,on a date that will be released on feb 12 2009.
We find this very interesting because just two weeks earlier Washington told us we could no protest in DC for at least a year and a half . But the day the spendulus bill passes we get a call from Washington inviting us with a choice of dates and locations. Folks we take this as a sign that our country if starting to realise the mistake they have made with putting Obama in office.
We will have live speakers and other entertainment for you.
WE would like to see 1 million supporters attend this protest. It is time to take our country back and make our voices heard.
Why are we protesting ?
1. To get the attention of the mainstream media.
2. To demand That Obama Provide proof that he is eligible to be president.
3. To demand that Congress and the Supreme court uphold our constitution.
4. To inform the public on the issue of Obama’s ineligibility to be president of the USA.
5. To demand that they can not take our constitutional rights away.
6. To say no to abortions.

My kids are absolutely against “old fogies” having it—esp. PARENTS; but for this, I would get it and use a pseudonym...what they don’t know won’t hurt them ;) Anyone else have Facebook?
It would be a great way to educate the college students—

I have heard suggestions of flying the Stars and Stripes Upside down as a form of protest, please don’t.
First because it is something those people that don’t respect the flag and those that gave their lives to defend it, do to protest against Our American government, whenever they are not in control or just to anger you.

I want to suggest flying one of our nation’s revolutionary flags as a sign that we are ready if necessary to revolt and fight anew for the freedoms the founding fathers won. So to send a Message to Obama and the congress that seeks to walk all over our rights as Americans by quite honestly stomping all them I encourage everyone to start flying the First Naval Jack of the Continental Navy.
***Love that flag and have to get one. Have flown the U.S. and Marine Corps Flags for what seems like forever! Our son, a former Marine, served in the Gulf War. Also have the Marine Corps emblems on our vehicles.

Do you see any hope to bring about education and change of opinion within the college students? They are the ones who are going to get screwed the worst, and once O stops using his Grecian Formula, and they understand just what has been done to them (my kids do), they may not think he is so “cool” afterall.

Grab a red Sharpie and perform the following correction to every “Newsweek” cover you can get your hands on. Then post that cover in a prominent public place.

There is a home business here in town that customizes stickers. Let me see what I can find out about them...
Also, we have a home business that sells flags, including all those mentioned on this thread. I will check with the “boss” about deals for FReepers and get back to you...
Symbolism is great and makes us “feel” good, but we have to go a step further... I thought the census boycott would be a good idea, but after reading other posts I see that probably isn’t the answer...lets keep brainstorming...we will get it!
Also, for those on Facebook, there is a FReeper group.
FR group on FB...!!ok that’s it, I am def going to set that up this weekend, but would be nice to see if there are other groups like anti-stimulus groups. My daughter said none of her high school aged friends seemed all that interested (amazing since they are hugely affected)!
Regarding media, as I mentioned, I am boycottiing papers because they are liberal and endorsed O. I think I personally am going to get serious about boycotting MSM sponsors products and writing letters to let them know why I am boycotting. This will become very important if the Fairness Doctrine (aka local control, etc.) get’s implemented.
Stickers for cars, etc. sound great—can even have several designs—this admin. is in for long haul, conservatives need to be planning long-term as well.
i fly one of those flags (DON’T TREAD ON ME striped rattlesnake flag) from my flag pole on my garage. i have a new one but prefer the faded tattered one. on the day after the election i tied black ribbon to the top end of my flag pole.
