McCain cuts deal with delegates to hand WV victory to Huckabee

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee enjoys the first victory on Super Tuesday for the Republicans as he takes all 18 delegates in the state of West Virginia, winning 52% of the vote, although rumors abound regarding the McCain campaign's possible instruction to their delegates to switch to his side.

Mitt Romney finished second with 47% of the vote, followed by McCain at 1%.

Rumors are circulating that the McCain campaign instructed their delegates to defect over to Mike Huckabee's side as to avoid a Romney victory. Nationally, McCain is significantly ahead of Huckabee and can afford giving the state's 18 delegates to Huckabee, but certainly not to Romney, who was originally in the lead when polling began in West Virginia by a wide margin and trails McCain nationally by only 17 delegates.

If a candidate wants to make a deal to support another candidate to prevent another from winning..thats all fine and dandy. Politics isn’t fair..never has been fair..

Yes, but this is slightly different. Huck is being deliberately propped up by someone to remain in the race. He knows full well he has no chance but he's allowing them to use him. He's been paid off.

At this point, I have more respect for the way things are going in the RAT primary. They're legitimate candidates. Huck is not a legitimate candidate. He can't win anything without colluding with McCain

McCain has learned well from his master, H. Clinton. The dark side is strong in this one.

"Hmmmm, yes. There are always two."

That is why Rush says a Huckabee or McCain nominee will ruin the party. A plurality went for Romney and McCain and Huck connived to win the vote. Stinks like rotten fish. No, it stinks like McCain or Huck. That’s much worse.

You do realize this is how the Constitution works dont you...if no majority is reached in the Electoral College...then it goes to the House.

You ever take US History? The term corrupt bargain was coined by the Jacksonians, who were well aware of how the Constitution worked.

Huckabee and McCain are tag teaming Romney. They've reached some sort of bargain, evidently [ my guess: Secretary of the Interior] which is corrupt because it isn't public.

Don't forget that McCain was the only Republican member of the Keating Five Scandle. Not only does he vote with Dems most of the time, but he steals accepts unlawful money with them too.

Damn that endorsement by that Hunter fellar paid off for the Huckster, didn’t it?

What do people think is supposed to happen when the rules require a majority winner? Those supporting candidates that are out of it or can’t win or supposed to go home and not vote. Politics is a game of collusion amongst the particiipants, witness the congress, etc.

The rules were in place the votes were taken, alliances made and a winner was named....... Kinda how it is supposed to work.

“Your boy” is the one I thought you were defending. I did not say you planned to vote for him or that he was your first choice.

You may be right. The article itself doesn’t clarify where Ron’s votes went.

I am hoping that it backfires on McCain because it reeks of backroom deals, manipulation, and double teaming.

It's McCain's style of politics. Every bit as stinky as the Clintons. Mr. "Keating 5" struts his stuff.

Get ready for lots of deals between Obama or Hill Bill and the Democrat supermajority Senate. A miracle in California is the only thing stopping McCainGang now lol.

I think it was great strategy. This is a battle. Mitt got skunked, outmaneuvered and outflanked in WV! He apparently isn’t as smart as we’ve been led to believe.

Outsmarted? Looks to me like two rascals agreed to not let the people's vote matter. I don't see where this takes any brains.

Welll you just plain thought flat out wrong. Long term McCain gives NOTHING to anybody without usury attached... might have gone well short term for Huckabee but it will be required to be paid back 100 fold.

“This delegate situation in WV is just dishonest. How can you defend that? You denigrate Reagan’s name by doing so.”

Dishonest? It’s called politics. The WV Republican Party has a right to run the caucuses the way they want to run them, without outside interference. Reagan would be all for that, and you know it. Reagan tried cutting deals to win the nomination in 76, does that make him dishonest too?

Look, I think Romney’s a nice and decent guy. I have nothing against him at all. I think he would be a very weak candidate however. He is proving that despite the money he is spending he’s not getting the necessary support and votes he needs to win.
