An estimated 2,830 people died or are missing in the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center. Ninety-eight percent of those victims were at work, and the youngest was only 2 ½ years old. One in six - 494 - are reportedly either foreigners or Americans with dual citizenship, hailing from more than 90 countries. In the attack on the Pentagon, 189 were killed, and in a field in Pennsylvania, another 45 died when their plane plummeted to earth due to the efforts of a small group of heroes who wanted to avert another crash into a building full of people.

Whether they were in New York, Virginia or Pennsylvania, the victims and heroes of September 11 represented the diversity that is America and the world. All will be missed. None will be forgotten.

Did you know that MSA National was the precursor of ISNA, ICNA, MAYA, IMA, AMSS, AMSE, MYNA, Islamic Book Service, and the North American Islamic Trust? Funny how those acronyms have popped up often as being recruiting fronts and/or financial support for terrorism.

Readers may recall that in 1994 reports circulated about how a computer science professor and Muslim activist named Sami Al-Arian had set up a think tank at USF — World and Islam Studies Enterprises — that was being investigated as a possible fund-raising front for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Some months later, an instructor whom Al-Arian had helped get a job at USF suddenly left and surfaced in Syria as the new leader of a notorious terror group.

Both of these developments occurred while Ms. Castor was the president of USF, yet at the time she did not take any steps to fire Al-Arian or to even publicly criticize him. According to Daniel Pipes, she merely ordered a review of his resume and only in 1996 placed him on non-disciplinary administrative leave with full pay. When the U.S. government failed to indict him by 1998, Castor reinstated Al-Arian in his old teaching job and a year later she left USF. However, in February of 2003, after the passage of the much maligned Patriot Act, which for the first time gave law enforcement officials access to intelligence agency information, Al-Arian and seven other men were indicted on terrorism charges arising out of their alleged use of the think tank as fronts to raise money for Islamic Jihad.

Group claims Hamas [still] raising funds in Canada [IRFAN]

The Islamic terrorist group Hamas has resumed fundraising in Canada through a front organization that offers charitable tax receipts to donors, an activist group stated earlier this week.



The International Relief Fund for the Afflicted and Needy, IRFAN-Canada, has taken over for the defunct Jerusalem Fund for Human Services as Hamas' fundraising arm in Canada, according to the Canadian Coalition for Democracies (CCD).


However, a spokesman for the organization denied the allegations. "We have nothing to do with the Jerusalem Fund," said Rasem Abdel-Majid, IRFAN-Canada's general manager. "This is an international relief [agency]. We have no connections to anybody."


Abdel-Majid also rejected suggestions the group supports Hamas. "That's not true," he said. "I want [CCD] to come out with proof of that."


CCD called on the federal government to freeze IRFAN's funds, prosecute the people behind it and explain how an organization with clear links to the Jerusalem Fund could have obtained the right to issue tax receipts for donations that ultimately benefit the banned terrorist organization Hamas.


"It really makes you wonder what the CRA [Canadian Revenue Agency] is doing when they grant charitable status to a group whose linkages to a banned organization in Canada is so transparent," said Alastair Gordon, director of communications for CCD.


Naresh Raghubeer, CCD's executive director, said only "gross incompetence" could explain how federal authorities permitted the Jerusalem Fund to re-emerge and do business in Canada under the IRFAN brand. He said IRFAN-Canada uses the same address and fax number as the Jerusalem Fund.


A search of the Internet by The CJN quickly uncovered the link. A website catering to Muslim students and another geared to Muslim entrepreneurs provided contact information for the Jerusalem Fund. The fund's mailing address in Mississauga and its fax number were identical to the ones advertised on IRFAN's website.
