The Civil War is about to loom very large in the popular memory. We would do well to be candid about its causes and not allow the distortions of contemporary politics or long-standing myths to cloud our understanding of why the nation fell apart.
The coming year will mark the 150th anniversary of the onset of the conflict, which is usually dated to April 12, 1861, when Confederate batteries opened fire at 4:30 a.m. on federal troops occupying Fort Sumter. Union forces surrendered the next day, after 34 hours of shelling.

I've read that only about 20% of those in the Confederate Native Guards joined the Union forces. Of course, bunches of those who joined the Union army later resigned. I guess they didn't like their new Northern masters and how they were treated. See: Link.
Yawn.
You totally missed the point of my response and the original post I was responding to.
Why don’t you enlighten me about what point you were trying to make.

He or she is back! The reason truman posted this thread was probably was to test the waters. See if NS could post and if anyone would notice. Did anyone believe that NS could survive without FR? Once a troll, always a troll.
LOL, sorry your troll pal was busted so fast?
I can. Truman is not NS, YOU ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the pings. I think you’re right.
Huge gaps [years] in its posting history.
It is always a family event at the Springs.
If Lincoln had stayed HIS hand? If memory serves it was the Confederacy who fired on Fort Sumter and initiated the war.
...I think something would of worked out in ten or twenty years at most, which would brought a re-union, AND ended slavery in the South WITHOUT over 1/2 Million dead...
So what, in your opinion, would have caused the Confederacy to pack it in, give up their independence, and go groveling back to the U.S.? I'm curious as to what that might be.
Not only the huge gaps onyx but the posts themselves. I think everyone knew he would be back, what we don’t know is how many other names he as and how many IP addresses. He even used his other name to bump his own vanity thread. Guess he was embarrassed at the low response to it.lol How lame.

What a disgrace to the uniform.
So what makes him the disgrace? His 13 years service? The fact he lost a leg in Iraq? Or his nerve at expressing an opinion you disagree with?
I was on the Kennedy back in the mid-70’s when we did a post-overhaul high speed run. We hit 35.5 knots, but that was light - no airwing or anything like that. Fully loaded the Enterprise is probably a little slower.
Actually seven years ago I thought that a Republican President and a Republican Congress would control spending. Silly me.

I love that she was obvious about it because it gives another chance for the petty MSM to look foolish. Seen any MSM reporting yet on the SUBSTANCE of her speech? I havent.
A bush-league error like this takes away from the substance of the speech.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a few crib notes, especially one word notes to make sure you touch on the topic.
But the notes were on taxes, spending, energy and lifting up America. Three of those are core conservative values and the fourth if obviously going to be her campaign theme. Why would she need notes to remember those during a Q&A?

All Sprint Calls to Israel Listed as to “Palistine”
Thursday, September 06, 2001 1:17:28 PM 29 of 34
Drennan Whyte to Nachum
I suppose that it would depend on the destination of the call and the article doesn’t say. If the person was calling Tel Aviv or Haifa then I imagine that they would have a complaint. If the call was destined for a city or a settlement in the occupied territories then what are they supposed to call it?

I work for Sprint and for what it’s worth this is an urban legend that all long distance companies have been fighting for several years. If you place a long distance call to Israel I guarantee you that it will say Israel on your bill. I believe that a call placed to the occupied territories will say Israel as well since it probably passes through the Israeli telephone system.
