I've never noticed players entering the stands to fight with players. I'm not a violent guy, nor do I like basketball, but had I been there, I'd have jumped the c-s-kers and held on until help arrived. Ben Wallace had shoved or grabbed a Pacer player. The actual fight started when the two Pacers entered the audience. Detroit should forfeit the game, and the fans (whoever can be identified) banned from Piston games for the season at least. But the two Pacers should be suspended without pay for their assault. A couple of physically fit, large athletes beating on a bunch of drunken couch potatoes? There will be lawsuits against them at the very least.

Let'a not forget that Artest also went after the wrong guy.

The guy in the cap was the culprit.

Nah, they'd have lost that one too. The NBA was exposed in the Olympics as a bunch of spoiled, whining, overpaid players with mediocre skills who can't play fundamentally sound basketball to save their lives. The pro game has devolved into a hip hop, dunk-till-you-drop, streetball game that hardly resembles what I remember watching in the 60s,70s and 80s.

Frankly, I don't know why anybody watches; it's boring when compared to the game as it used to be played. I quit watching ten years ago.

Yep. I know that sports have the rule that players can't go into the stands to attack fans.

Check out my post above.. and watch the video. People got hurt by Artest that were not doing anything but covering the game. He mowed 'em over.

What needs to be done:

Jail time for the idiot fans and any Pacer and Piston who tossed a punch, 2 game suspension for all players on each team(yeah, that means 2 losses for each), automatic forfeiture of season tickets if you throw anything or are removed by security for your childish taunting trashy mouth, plastic see-through panels installed in all arenas surrounding the courts, a ban on hip-hop thugs (like P. Diddy) performing at NBA events, every NBA player required to wear a belt off court with million dollar fines each time underwear is displayed or the crotch of the pants drags down to the knee, automatic expulsion for every goofy rich total fool white fan who displays hiphop hand movements and phrases, immediate banishment of that "Wake up with the King" Burger King commercial(the creepyist in the history of broadcasting), and a mandatory haircut for that stupid looking stereotype-reinforcing Ben Wallace.

I agree; at least 3 people, if not more.

What the heck was he doing on the scorer's table?

Sorry, getting a beer thrown on you does not justify punching the crap out of a fan.

Its provocation. The players were justified and you would do it yourself if you were walking down the street and someone threw their drink at you. The players take verbal abuse, but when a fan assaults you, then they are right to feel threatened.

The 70s? LOL whe nthe league almost folded because thuggery and cokeheads had taken it over?

You don't know squat about basketball and obviously didn't watch Phoenix and LA tonight or Utah-Miami.

The NBA wasn't exposed in the Olympics. The players were younger, Larry Brown refused to play the best guys for the style they needed to play and the way Duncan was officiated was a joke.

You don't even know that scouting, defense, more controlled offensive sets and the like are responsible for the decrease in scoring. Defense and athletes are just better now.

Seriously though, I've had it. President Bush has a mandate, and won on moral issues. Perhaps it is time he make a call to some league commissioners this weekend, and press for tougher enforcement of fan and player behavior and decency. I'm old school, there is absolutely no excuse for not throwing out obnoxious fans who insist on cussing, endless ugly taunting(beyond what is reasonable), and throwing things. Every pro sports venue should be family friendly. Enough with the spoiled brats who think it is their 'right' to turn every place they go into an x-rated fraternity party.

Is this the guy who wanted "more" time off to promote his CD?

Heh.. Someone DID post it. I was thinking of it as it went down. Artest wanted a month off to promote his album.. and he just might get it.

Yeah, we should pay teachers 10 million a year.

What's hilarious is what you reject the capitalist ideal. These athletes(and actors in the case of film) ARE the product, though the athletes are more essential than actors who need writing, directing, etc.

The fatcat owners who extort money for stadiums get a free pass, but the athletes who people actually pay to see should get minimum wage, according to geniuses like you.

Hell, lots of companies make products that are of only MARGINAL value to society and make billions. But they shouldn't get paid either, right?

Or do you just have a bias against the athletes?

The NBA wasn't exposed in the Olympics.

Most people don't want to look at it analytically, but that's the truth. Shaq, Robinson, Bryant, Kidd, Carter would have blown everyone out as badly as the original dream team. What is different, is that America's fifth string NBA team is no longer good enough to get the job done, because everyone else has gotten so much better.

ESPN just replayed the entire incident from the time of Wallace's thuggery on the court to it's conclusion without any editing. (as originally aired)

I wasn't able to tell from the ESPN video who actually tossed the cup that "started" it.
