OK RIGHT.. Wallace. But he didn't get "pushed". He got slugged.

I have a feeling that when all of this is over, Artest will be a former NBA player

Just saw the replay. This should cost Wallace 5-10 G. O'Neal and Artest should both be suspended for the year -- Artest, perhaps, forever.

Yeah, Old fogey nostalgia really runs rampant in sports; and a lot of the comments about sports on threads, talk radio, just seem to be the same old cliches about everything going to hell in a handbasket.

NBA teams in the 70s had a guy on the roster just to fight, like hockey enforcers.

Actually, there haven't been many brawls in the NBA for a long, long time.

My personal favorite was when Sedale Threatt of the Sixers knocked Danny Ainge silly in the 1980s..I think Dr. J won that game with a three.

Why would anybody care to watch the NBA. They can't beat Argentina.

Well, tonight they could have beat them to a pulp....maybe.

THIS JUST IN: The NBA "has no comment."

Seriously.

i totally agree. Dont see how anybody could be on the Pacers side on this one. Artest and the rest of that team are total goons... throw them outta the league. They deserved everything they got.

Going into the stands at a sporting event is one of the dumbest things a professional athlete can do. You have no freakin' idea what kind of loony-tunes are there.

Artest, BTW, is the same player who wanted to take some time off this season to make a rap CD or something os that sort. That alone tells me that he has no business playing on a professional sports team.

The fans are totally at fault. Their own guy started it. The Pacers just tried to end it. Kudos to Artest for nailing that fata*S fan in the Pistons jersey. BTW I am not a fan of eiter team. Just good entertainment.
I get sick of these hand-wringing announcers saying "Its a sad day for the NBA" . Hell-no it isn't . This is what legends are made of. People here in the Syracuse area still grimace when they hear the name Tommy Heinsohn and we haven't had a team in 40 yrs. Stuff like this is what these same announcers say that make up the grand tapestry of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.
This will be a great payday for the NBA, despite the hyprocritical posturing we will see from David Stern in the next two days. Ratings for Detroit-Indiana for the next 2 yrs are going to go thru the roof.

I just saw the replay again. I don't think that Artest got a punch off at the fan because the other players held him back but while they were rushing up to grab Artest another fan starts pounding on one of the other players. Didn't see him punch back. Maybe the players are ok here. Not sure.

The chinks in David Stern's armor are showing badly. This is the smartest, greatest commissioner in the history of sports they tell us. Well, it's obvious that he rode the Jordan/Bird/Magic coattails for years and now the ride is over.

Understandably, they are in full lockdown mode but the 'no comment' BS is shameful and obviously the ploy of their lawyers (including little Davy himself). Who does it hurt to condemn the whole sordid mess? Pathetic.

Apropos of nothing, this is about the first time ESPNEWS has ever proved useful. They could actually start getting ratings if they did more breaking news coverage like this. (And I don't mean simulcasting postgame press conferences.)

What happens on the court stays on the court. Wallace could get fined 1 game maybe. All he did was shove Artest. It was Artest who lost his mind and raced into the stands. A professional athlete should be able to restrain himself against jerks in the crowd. Artest is a loose cannon. If somebody had a small child in the front rows, they would've been in seriously jeopardy and could've been killed by a rampaging 6'8" 250 pound athlete. Artest, in my opinion, is gone for 40 games minimum.

Anyone who started throwing punches--or beer--ought to go to the hoosegow.

The players ought to be given REAL suspensions (a season) and jail

The fans ought to get jail and banned from any sporting venue--forever.

"Why not say "N___" and be done with it?"

Because it's not N___ as you so inanely put it. It is the system of: "how-much-money-can-we-make-off-of-these-jocks." The colleges, pro teams don't care what color they are. All they care about is the money. The sufferers are especially the N___ as you put it. But there are many more. White, black, asian.

But of course you are too stupid too see it.
