up on drudge:
WASH TIMES: U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico... Members of the group, said to be wearing backpacks, secretly traveled to northern Mexico and crossed into a mountainous part of Arizona, Gertz to report in Pgae One Splash, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE...
How convenient. First, Schieffer says that "illegal immigration" should be a question asked of the candidates, and then lo and behold the CIA leaks a report of terrorists coming across the border as illegal "immigrants" just in time for the 3rd debate.
Gotta luv the CIA playing politics with leaks...
Again.
What is Mexico's birth rate, anyway?
I agree. But I find it hard to believe anyone would believe Kerry would do better than Bush on security.
But I have learned NEVER to underestimate the stupidity of the voter.
Once again, it is Bush's own fault. The internal polls cite a large gap between the two in the security issue. Even though Kerry is the absolute worst, Bush is not much better. Why he wouldn't even make some sort of attempt to initiate real border security is completely beyond me. Some sort of Border Security program would have made that gap permanent, and at the least, given him something to fall back on during the debate. He had three g-ddamn years to do it!
He spent about a trillion in medi-kare, edjookayshun, and fatherland security...don't anyone tell me he couldn't justify spending a hundred billion on patrols, drones, machine guns, and technology!
Now, on the night of the final debate, after the Washington Times report is published, (this may be the FIRST time the media will mention the WT!) the democrats are setting bush up for a disasterous and possibly fatal blow, if a terrorist attack occurs. I wouldn't know who to be more disgusted with. The Democrat slime, for hoping an attack take place, or the "Bush Adminnistrayshun" for failing to enact proper security (and political) damage control measures.
carl, carl, carl...Being one that has lived in Sierra Vista, AZ I can personally vouch for 100's of illegals that scurried across my lawn heading north. My guess is that none had visas or green cards in hand. (they get those in Phoenix or LA)
Kerry is for appeasement and capitulation!
Look, I am not new to this party, nor am I coming in late on this issue riding this headline. Months and months ago I posted that should a terrorist strike the homeland who had slipped across the border it would jeopardize Bush's election.
If you can justify this administration's record on the southern border as anything other than pandering to the Hispanic vote, no one would be more relieved in spirit than I would. Lets hear it.
Oh man. your credibility just went southbound carl. No offense, but I suggest you stick with fishing in Alaska, or maybe ice fishing.
Nah, don't think so. Both major parties are pretty well going to ignore this. Maybe it's cheap labor, maybe a twisted attempt to shore-up social security, bit of political correctness, a hope for future voters. Whatever, they are selling the future of you and your kids.
PING!! Another Soros funded attack!
Secretly? Apparently not.
Which makes what Gertz says above, hyperbole.
BTW, wouldn't a bunch of Caucasians walking around Mexico in mid-July, look funny.
Some people here are now trying to convince us that this invasion of millions is somehow a Drudge conspiracy, and there is nothing to it. It's all hype.
People are scary.
No, it's not on the agenda for Mexicans. But any damn fool can get into Mexico, then slip across the border into the U.S. Duuuhhhhh...
Believe it. I live here on the border and have to deal with it on a daily basis.
Apprehensions in the Tucson Sector -- all of Arizona except a few miles near Yuma -- amounted to 491,514 in FY 2004. The local Border Patrol agents here claim they are lucky to catch one in five.
I agree that we need to take action, but it looks like the agency to beef up is the INS, because most of these people are entering through legal visas. We need a lot more INS agents to keep track of them and force them to go home. But it's tough work. These guys are much more motivated than the poor American trash in our ghettos. They hit the road and drive to another state to avoid the INS and get another job. These Mexican guys are strong and motivated and they work hard. I had a bunch of these guys help me fix up and clean up my parents' house in San Diego a few years ago before we sold the house. I don't have an answer at this time for our immigration problem. Economic forces are so strong and the difference in wages is so great between the U.S. and Mexico. We'd have to fingerprint and photograph every single person who vists from every low-salary country in the world and then we would be able to find perhaps 40% of them after they disappear into the country. In the long run, it may be easier to build up their incomes and make them more politically conservative. I really do not have an answer.
"...If you can justify this administration's record on the southern border as anything other than pandering to the Hispanic vote..."
Well yes but...it also panders to business interests that desire cheap labor and a growing population. All that cheap labor and growth comes at a terrible cultural price.
I say we get to the Greens and say "look Green weirdo people, you want ZPG--zero population growth? you really want it? Well we already have it among native born whites. If you Green zip wads would help us curtail immigration, we would have less population stress upon the envirnonment."
Well okay many Greens and Enviro Whackos have agendas different from their stated ones but we could make the eco case. War and politics makes strange bedfellows.
Are you serious?
Good point - after all, the terrorist that was caught in 1999 was coming across Canadian border to blow up LAX. The Canadian government are a lot more sympathic to Muslims also.
I also would not be surprised if Bob Shieffer didn't know that the report is coming out - but considering the debate is in Arizona and immigration is a huge problem there, he could have been told by Arizona democrats to bring up the subject - just ot Bush though, he won't ask Kerry what he would do. Besides, Kerry would just say that he doesn't answer hypotheticals.
FYI....The Tucson sector had something like 435,000 in FY'04, and Cochise County accounted for a little over a quarter of a million...caught.
Cochise County has only 90 miles of the nearly 2000 mile border with Mexico.
Sorry dude...we're talking about river crossers, not card carrin' legals.
