Gov. Timothy M. Kaine is asking state agencies to cut their budgets by 5 percent to help deal with a tax income shortfall of $641 million for last year and this current fiscal year. As of this post, the Petition to Repeal the VA "Civil Remedial Fees" for Traffic Offenses has over 66,000 signatures. It seems that something has finally gotten the attention from the citizens of the Commonwealth. Much has been said about the abuser fees and who we should blame in all of this. What is most odious bout all of this is that the fines apply only to Virginians. And according to The Mason Conservative and others, we have only Governor Gridlock to thank for that. The Mason Conservative: How Tim Kaine Screwed VirginiaI went to make darken "and persons operating...

Barack Obama censors free speech in Richmond. Presidential wannabe Barack Obama was in Richmond last night for a fundraiser. According to the Richmond Time-Dispatch about 500 people gathered last night at the Plant Zero Art Center to hear Obama preach his socialist agenda. But all was not as it seemed. Or not at least as it really was when the gallery isn’t being used for campaign purposes. According to the RTD, the artist Jamie D. Boling had to remove one painting and cover up another that were deemed inappropriate for photo ops with Obama. Boling replaced a painting of a...

NLS: Will Tim’s newly found popularity impact the 2007 campaign? Let’s be clear about this, we don’t often have kind words for Tim Kaine, but he, as well as his wife, were marvelous in the aftermath of the Tech shootings. His remarks at the Convocation, their visits to the wounded. He faced a difficult situation and dealt with it admirably. But apparently Ben can’t wait to parlay that into Democrat(ick) gains in the fall. The term of course is exploitation.

Could it be at last that the Virginia Senate’s semi-Republican obstructionist is retiring? That’s the word we get around the Virginia blogosphere this week. And in our opinion, not a moment too soon, and perhaps four years too late.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, cast as a tough mayor of a tough town, brought a tough message to Richmond yesterday. "The best way to protect yourself is to be on offense and not to be weak," Giuliani told reporters before a fundraiser for his Republican presidential campaign. "That isn't the way we defeated communism by being weak . . . "

I have voted for Senator John Warner four out of five times he has run for office. The exception was my junior year in college. Being out of state and dealing with the fact that my father had recently passed away, I didn’t file an absentee ballot for Warner’s first race in 1978. My last vote for John Warner was cast in 2002. Quite frankly I don’t care who the Democratick party puts up on 2008. If John Warner is the Republican nominee, I’m not voting for him.

WASHINGTON -- Virginia Sen.-elect Jim Webb said President Bush is a "failed president" who should use his last two years in office to repair America's image abroad by ending the Iraq war through intensive diplomacy. For a moment we thought Jim Webb was just hurling another insult at women. Then we realized that wasn't quite it.But, for the life of us, we couldn't figure out what possessed Webb to make this statement:"Towel-heads and rednecks -- of which I am one. If you write that word, please say that. I mean, I don't use that pejoratively, I use it defensively. Towel-heads and rednecks became the easy villains in so many movies out there."Don't Call Him Redneck, The Washington Post, October 18, 2006Towel-heads?!?!?!?!?!This is the Urban Dictionary definition for "Towel-head." A derogatory term for one of Middle...

The Liberal Website Blogging the Amendment carries a story from The Washington Blade that says former Virginia Governor (and Presidential Wannabe) Mark Warner's PAC has given $25,000 to defeat the Virginia Marriage Amendment. Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner’s One Virginia PAC contributed $25,000 to The Commonwealth Coalition’s campaign to defeat Ballot Question #1, the Marshall-Newman amendment, which would write discrimination into Virginia’s bill of rights.

Incumbent Virginia Sen. George Allen, who has suffered through some serious campaign missteps in recent weeks and days, is now making a comeback. Those problems had resulted in the loss of a big lead over Democratic challenger James Webb, but it now appears Allen is once again on solid ground. He leads Webb, 48% to 37%, with 13% yet undecided. Allen is the only Republican in the 10 Senate races featured in the Reuters/Zogby poll to hold a double-digit lead.

Welcome to George Allen for Senate FReeper Headquaters. Use this thread to post relevant articles regarding the campaign. Share news accounts. Alert other Freepers to DemonRAT attacks. This campaign has gotten ugly because the RATS are scared of George Allen. Don't think this is all about campaign "missteps." That's the KOS/DU/Raising Kaine playbook line. This is an orchestrated hate-filled smear campaign, and it's time we fought back. Let's roll.

Richmond, VA—Responding to attacks by the Jim Webb campaign, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA- 07) released the following statement. “Throughout his career and campaign, Senator Allen has been a leader focusing his energy and efforts on making our Commonwealth a great place to live, work, and raise our families. “I applaud Senator Allen’s efforts to stay focused on the issues that matter to Virginians throughout this campaign. “In the primary, Jim Webb produced and mailed a cartoon of his Jewish opponent depicting him with a long nose and money coming out of his pockets, calling him the anti-Christ of outsourcing.
