Cantor Calls on Webb to Stop Religious Attacks and Focus on Issues

Richmond, VA—Responding to attacks by the Jim Webb campaign, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA- 07) released the following statement.

“Throughout his career and campaign, Senator Allen has been a leader focusing his energy and efforts on making our Commonwealth a great place to live, work, and raise our families. “I applaud Senator Allen’s efforts to stay focused on the issues that matter to Virginians throughout this campaign.

“In the primary, Jim Webb produced and mailed a cartoon of his Jewish opponent depicting him with a long nose and money coming out of his pockets, calling him the anti-Christ of outsourcing. His Democrat opponent rightly condemned this anti-Semitic ploy.

“Now, we learn that Jim Webb’s campaign operatives, on his behalf, have been pushing a story that George Allen has Jewish relatives.

“In some perverse way Jim Webb believes that this will cost Senator Allen votes.

“Jim Webb is dead wrong. The people of Virginia are fair minded, honest, and moral. Appeals to bigotry fail in Virginia, because Virginians look to a person’s integrity and character. Jim Webb is failing this test of integrity. It is time for Mr. Webb to start talking about the real issues facing the Commonwealth and America.

“I am proud to have Senator Allen as Virginia’s Senator and my friend; he has made Virginia a better place to live.”

I think we can pretty safely assume that Webb harbors some anti-Semitic tendencies. I wonder if this is why he switched to the Rat party, where most of this junk seems to reside.

Wow. I am ancestrally of some Jewish blood, as my grandmother was the product of a Jewish man and his Irish cleaning woman, then adopted by an Irish Catholic couple.

Though I've never run for office, I am hard-pressed to think of a fact about me that is less relevant than that. It's up there with my favorite color.

It always happens in politics when someone goes into the gutter: the other side says "come on, let's talk about the issues."

If I were in a position to be quoted, like Cantor, I'd probably say something like this: "I am glad that Mr. Webb went into the gutter with personal attacks. It shows his true character and the level of respect he has for the voters. We can't wait to hear his next childish insult."

I have Jewish blood that appears to concentrate in the middle finger of my right hand. Whenever I think of or see a picture of Webb, that finger becomes engorged with all that Jewish blood, stands straight up and actually pulls my arm up with it. Now that I think of it, that's probably the most appropriate response to Webb and his ilk.
