Why are FReepers rallying around a crony socialist?

Posted on 12/24/2015 7:07:28 AM PST by dangus

Donald Trump has an excuse for funding Hillary Clinton's election to the U.S. Senate from New York: That's how crony socialism is done. You pay off elected officials to become their crony, then you get special consideration for your real estate deals. Please FReepers, explain to me how this isn't precisely what we are trying to STOP in Washington? Do you know what I don't hear coming from Trump? "I'm going to put an end to such games." Rather, it seems like he is proud of how he has played the game, considers it is how he rose to the top, and in his generous self-appraisal, figures that anything that helped him make more of his billions must be good.

He also favors socialized medicine. Not just a mandated level of services (Obamacare), but the government paying for universal, single-payer health care. This isn't an opinion from 2000. This is from his current campaign:

Scott Pelley: How do you fix it?

Donald Trump: There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, “No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private. But–”

Scott Pelley: Universal health care.

Donald Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.

Scott Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?

Donald Trump: They’re going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably–

Scott Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?

Donald Trump: –the government’s gonna pay for it.

Trump isn't a conservative. He's a narcissist who can't help telling the crowds what he thinks they want to hear. And so what we get in the Republican debates is an unelectable charicature of conservatism. One moment he's for keeping all Muslims out; the next he's only for keeping Islamofascists out. Well, duh. One moment, he's against the invasion of America by millions of communist Chinese and socialist Mexicans, the next, he's endorsing touchback amnesty.

Wait... you didn't know Trump favors granting citizenship to just about any red Chinese or Mexican who asks for it? "We have a lot of good people, they’ve been here and they've done a good job. It’s a tough situation and in some cases they haven’t been good people, and there have been some problems. The good ones we’ll expedite."

That's right... he's going to expedite illegal aliens already in the United States so that they can come right back into the United States.

Building a wall and then expediting illegal aliens in a touchback amnesty might help solve the security risks of uncontrolled illegal aliens, but how exactly are we going to simultaneously "expedite" them and screen them for terrorist connections? More than that, the fear that there might be terrorists among illegal aliens is one of the relatively minor issues I have with illegal aliens. I don't want my country invaded by Red Chinese and Mexican Reconquistadoras, driving down wages and consuming far more government services that they pay for.

But then we come to the issue that will make Donald Trump utterly, totally, completely unelectable. Unlike most socialists, Trump believes that American middle-class wages are too high. He has said this at almost every debate, and no rival or moderator has called him out on it. But with the Republicans already having a tough sell with Romney's legendary 47% who live off the government, can Republicans tell the vast majority of the remainder of Americans, "Oh, by the way, we'd be happy if you had way less money?"

Please, people, don't be like that Democrat socialite who couldn't believe Nixon won because she didn't know anyone who voted Republican. Trump is getting 96% of the coverage of Republican candidates, so he is who everyone is talking about. But don't confuse the volume of attention with electability. In a head-to-head poll matchup, Trump loses to Bernie Sanders in a landslide.

I've always thought the mainstream Republicans were fools to refuse to stand up for conservative values in the hope of winning an election. It's not just about watering down your beliefs to win over the middle; it's about giving people in the middle reason to think you'll do something about the conservative concerns they do have, and giving the base a reason to come out to vote. But is nominating someone who makes 58% of Americans think he is just an obnoxious blowhard the solution?

Please, if you think I'm an idiot, don't just tell me I'm an idiot. Tell me where you think I'm wrong. Tell me why you don't believe Trump won't pass a touchback amnesty into law, or won't institute socialized medicine. Show me data to say how he has a prayer of winning. I really do want a reason to believe that we're not about piss away our best chance at electing a conservative president since Ronald Reagan.

You are right and I apologise. It was a vanity, a bloviating bit of Trump hatred which does not rise to the level of a blog. Blogs draw advertising revenue, something which this screed cant do. So, once again, I apologise and will settle for the short version, Pimp.

I’m not going to bother to break down your entire post. I’m sure that somebody will beat me to it and, honestly, I’m really sick and tired of going over the same material with people who have no interest in listening. It’s obvious that you’re not asking an honest question and looking for real answers. You’re trying to force Trump supporters on the defensive and you’re probably the 100th one to post such a vanity this year.

All that aside, I’d like you to think about the budget that just passed.

Think about how our party folded like a cheap suit. Think about the decades of compromise that’s pushed this nation ever left.

Personally, I find all of the ‘great and glorious Trump’ memes hilarious. I do NOT think that he’ll be our ‘great hope’ and that he’ll turn it all around. He’s not my savior and he’s not my messiah.

I’m punishing the GOP for their years of betrayal. I want to watch them hurt and gnash their teeth and rend their garments as the party goes down in glorious, white-hot, flames. I’m madder at them than I am the stupid liberals because they’ve lied to me. They took my money and they took my votes and they took my support, then they stabbed me in the back and didn’t do a damn thing that we asked them to do.

Cruz can’t hurt them badly enough. Cruz would be ineffective.

His speech is too high-brow to get through to the ‘everyman’. More and more ‘regular’ people are hearing Trump - from all over the political spectrum. The people who don’t spend hours a day mired in the musings of political pontificates. The people who don’t have the inclination to dig deep into every nuance and issue. The people who are busting their butts working and can’t care.

Ted Cruz begins to recite his carefully crafted speech and their eyes glaze over. Not because they’re too stupid to understand, but because they’re too tired to care and he sounds like a used car salesman giving them yet another ‘pitch’. He’ll never catch fire like Trump has.

And who knows. Perhaps Trump can help this withering economy and maybe he will make us more secure.

Win or lose, I win.

And, before you say, ‘but that could mean that you give us Hillary!’

That’s the argument that I’ve submitted to since 2008. Did holding my nose help us avoid 8 years of Obama?

Why should I fall for that again?

Let me tell you why that statement is ignorant. First, it assumes that the only choices are Trump or uniparty period. Totally a false straw dog argument that doesn't pass the 50 IQ point. Second, it ignores how many of the uniparty candidates and policies that TRUMP HIMSELF has supported.

Exactly. It won't matter though.

Gee, anyone with half a brain who paid attention during the Clinton presidency?

Nobody thought nothing of the Clinton Foundation when it was created, that's the thing. It was an after-thought. No one knew it was going to be a vehicle to solicit money and favors.

True, it's not the same as donating to Hillary, but you said he didn’t donate to federal candidates at all.

Read: I said the poster said he was "funding" Hillary's election to her Senate seat. Nothing of the sort happened.

Yet, he donated to Democratic committees which ONLY fund federal candidates. So he did donate to federal candidates, just not directly.

I do not care about the Rat PACs. That was not part of my critique of the poster.
I am refuting what the poster said: That Trump was "directly funding" Hillary's Senate seat. That DID NOT OCCUR.

Looking forward to reading that one.

People won't like that I say this but traditional conservatism, as we know it, has proven a failure against leftism.

If we are to claw our way back, it will be through nationalism and what is called the alt-right, a young, mostly, identarian movement, and nationalism.

Honestly, that will leave a lot of (cucked up) conservatives behind and will find allies in strange places.

The future looks very different and one thing I have learned posting here all these years, many conservatives can't handle that-they are comfortable losing.

BTW, you said there was some intelligent refuation of the OP up wind on the forum. I didn't see any....direct me to one you think is good.

So, Laz - apparently C. Edmund Wrong is illiterate, since he couldn't apparently read your post, or several other good refutations of dingus McN00b.

Must dictate to his computer with one of them transcriber programs. I noticed in one of his posts on another thread, Wrong's computer transcriber substituted "accept" for "except".

Guess the proof's in the pudding... LOL! :)

We'll have to see if JohnRob can put some code for an audio reader into the FR software. It'll help out the "challenged", like C. Edmund Wrong...

Yeah, but at least Cruz has balls enough to say that he won't criticize Trump when Trump takes a politically incorrect stand.

**grin** Ya gotta love Cruz for that. :)

I didn’t see any cheating evidence, just divorce. For someone with his wealth, it’s no surprise he would be an attractive target of countless gold diggers.

For years our side was bashed by the press and by the other side and we responded very meekly.

I was explaining to one of the later 98ers upthread my position on Trump:

kiryandil wrote: "Us '97ers know ALL about the Media. We hate them with a searing, white-hot hate. ANYTHING that will destroy them, we're for."

Yesterday, I was telling a friend about that January night we sat on Free Republic and watched Matt Drudge stick it in "Spikey" Isikoff's eye. The late-comers don't know the glory of that moment, after the fights of late 1997 [digging up M. Larry Lawrence!!!, LOL!].

You remember. :)

“He’s still my second choice, after The Big Dog.”

Me, too. In fact, he’s the only one of the candidates other than Trump that I might even consider voting for. If somehow the GOP-e manages to worm in one of their chosen candidates, I’m not voting.

That’s exactly the same reaction I had when I tried to watch Cruz give a speech a couple of weeks ago. And it’s not because I have anything against Cruz, or because I’m a Trump supporter. I ended up turning him off after 20 minutes or so.

Our nations history is replete with leaders who loved women a bit too much

Jefferson of course

Alexander Hamilton

Benjamin Franklin

James Madison

Governour Morris

Fast forward to Patton and Ike

Reagan was divorced but I dare not venture whether he cheated on Jane Wyman

Feel free to bash Trump as ideologically flawed.,,..he is

But marital fidelity is a less reliable benchmark

Plenty of faithful libs
