Rand Paul to Media: You Should Grill Dems about abortion, too
CNN ^ | 04/08/2015 | Eric Bradner

Posted on 04/08/2015 12:36:31 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Rand Paul says he doesn't want to be grilled about abortion until Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz answers similarly tough questions.

And Wasserman Schultz is hitting back -- highlighting Paul's testy interviews with female television anchors, too, by saying she hopes he can "respond without 'shushing' me."

Paul, the Kentucky Republican senator who launched his 2016 presidential campaign this week, bristled at a question about abortion while talking with reporters in New Hampshire on Wednesday.

"Why don't you ask the DNC, 'Is it OK to kill a seven-pound baby in the uterus?'" Paul said.

His comment came after The Associated Press published a report that said Paul had ducked questions about his views on what exceptions -- if any -- he'd support if abortion were to be banned. Paul has previously supported measures that included exceptions for situations like rape and incest, as well as measures without those exceptions.

In a press conference shortly after the AP's story was published, Paul said discussions of abortion focus too much on "exact details" on the right, and that Democrats should face similarly complex questions.

"We always seem to have the debate way over here on what are the exact details on exceptions or when it starts," Paul said.

He said reporters should go to Wasserman Schultz with similar questions -- and then ask him again.

"You go back and you ask Debbie Wasserman Schultz if she's okay with killing a seven pound baby that is just not yet born yet. Ask her when life begins, and you ask Debbie when she's willing to protect life," he said. "When you get an answer from Debbie, come back to me."

I like it. I think I’ve seen this tactic used before on another issue, long, long ago: “The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?”

The Democrats have the same lie, uh, I mean “answer” about abortion: “I am against it personally, but those are difficult quesions that are a decision to be made between a woman and her doctor.”

Follow up question: “A woman and her doctor. I see. Does the baby have a say?”

Hey, somebody ought to tell Mr. Paul that you do not play nasty with the drive bys at their own game (witness Scott Walker and questions about Obama’s faith). (Enemedia sarc).

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

Well it’s at least a good slap back at them. Maybe Paul can be Sec. of the Treasury for Cruz if he keeps that up.

What this guy needs is a couple of photos of a baby in the late 2nd trimester. Keep those in his wallet and answer the abortion questions by showing them those pictures and asking what they think the pictures look like?

Agreed. I love this response. It is sickening that the GOP has given up on asking these tough questions. We are winning on this issue and they continue to run from it...just like they did with marriage. We will not win if we don’t fight back on “social” issues, and fight back hard. We will not win on an economic centered campaign. Make them answer to the public on this.

Dismembering an infant that feels pain is nothing but coldblooded, heartless murder. A woman has the right to use birth control, but when another life is involved, she does not have the right to take that innocent life. The doctor is supposed to save lives, period.

The original Hippocratic Oath contains a prohibition against assisting an abortion and euthanasia.

“Nor shall any man’s entreaty prevail upon me to administer poison to anyone; neither will I counsel any man to do so. Moreover, I will give no sort of medicine to any pregnant woman, with a view to destroy the child.”

I agree. The first time a republican says something similar during a Rep/Dem debate abortion stops being a hammer to nail republicans. Every republican asked about abortion should ask that the dem on the stage be asked what they mean by ‘choice’. When does life begin, do you support partial birth, should government fund all abortions under any circumstances, should gender selection be accepted? Make them answer, be specific. Once we demand that the issue will disappear.
