Actually my screen name is out of date. I now serve the St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Chapel in Manhattan, KS as its Subdeacon and Council President. I am a Professor of Mathematics at Kansas State University where I teach whatever I get stuck with, and do research on categorical algebra and quantum topology (a strange corner of mathematics which studies low-dimensional topology by methods which look formally like Dirac's bracket formulation of quantum mechanics, but are mostly category theory and algebra, which has obliged me to prove new theorems in functional analysis and Euclidean geometry (!)).

I guess I might count as a neo-conservative, since in my youth I was a leftist. (I jeer at self-described Marxists by telling them I outgrew Marxism along with acne.) I worked on the first Reagan campaign while a grad student at Penn, where I was active in the YAF chapter. We once 'FReeped' the Soviet ambassador, unfurling a banner with the list of captive nations, and signs in Russian proclaiming Vladimir Jeronovski Voice of Tyranny. We also held a candle-light vigil for the victims of the KAL shootdown: I spoke quoting Solzhenitsyn about the dividing line between good and evil running down the middle of the human heart, much to the surprise of the one socialist who turned up.

If FR gave us longer tag-lines mine would read, "'And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.' -- Slobodan Milosevic"
