Anything beyond Scriptural references is conjecture, the philosophies of men and not God.

On what authority do you base this claim. Are you God? Did God tell you this personally?

This is conjecture, the philosophy of men.

Would anyone care to construct a Scripturally accurate portrait of Mary, leaving behind extra-biblical sources?

Challenge accepted.

And I'll go you one further. Let's take kawaii's wise advice, toss out our English translations (they are extra-biblical) and take out our Greek New Testaments and our Liddell and Scott Greek lexicons.

We're gonna do this in the original. :)

I'm curious why you didn't quote the actual passages, in their original languages, rather than numbers and English Language names.

I'm sure you realize that these scriptures were not authored by English speakers, nor were they written in English.

Bunch of references here.

BTW if you don't regard that as scripture can you please explain why not?

I want you to Actually THINK about this question ......WHY would GOD have his SON carried and given birth by a SINNER? That absolutely makes NO SENSE! How do you reconcile your thinking with that?

Don't forget Luke 2:48:

"And when they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said unto him, Son, why has thou thus dealt with us? Behold, thy father and I have sought thee, sorrowing."

I realize that his mother was upset, especially the inconvenience of having to return to Jerusalem with all his other little brothers and sisters, but is that what I think it is? --- an untruth issuing forth from the immaculate one.

Do you really think that Isaiah 7:13-14 is the only passage in the OT that refers to Mary?

What about Genesis 3:15?

What about the typological significance of the "queen mother" in the Davidic monarchy?

I'll try to get back later with some verses; there are a lot of them.

1. As Scott Hahn points out, nowhere in the Scripture does it say, "Sola Scriptura."

2. In several places, the gospel writers testify that many other things were said that were not written down. Some of these things were passed along in the early Church without being included in the canonical scriptures. So their authority is less certain, but not simply dismissable out of hand.

3. Even what is written is unclear. Thus the great passage in Revelation has been differently interpreted by Catholics and some Protestants. The Woman in the Wilderness to Catholics is Mary, but for some early Protestants was the true Church in exile. I must say that I find that a bit of a stretch.

12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

12:2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Very hard to see how this Woman who gives birth to a man child who will rule the universe and put down Satan and be seated on the Throne of God, is not Mary, the Mother of Jesus.

The doctrine of the Trinity is not mentioned in the Bible.

Is that also a "philosophy of men and not God?"

Well?

Is anyone going to offer an exclusively Scriptural portrait of Mary?

Thanks for the listing. I hadn't considered Luke 1 and 2:35 this closely before. Luke 2:35 is an interesting passage. Does that mean her soul is pierced with a sword whenever somebody prays to her?
