What about Genesis 3:15?
What about the typological significance of the "queen mother" in the Davidic monarchy?
I'll try to get back later with some verses; there are a lot of them.
You beat me to it Campion; just as well since I'm being called to dinner.
A good place to start looking is in I Kings 1-2. Note that King David tells Bathsheba that her son Solomon is to be the next king.
The Gebirah (queen mother) played an important part in Near Eastern monarchies because she acted as the queen (instead of one of the King's many concubines). We see that she had real power and was given honor, even by her son, the King (II Kings 2:19). In addition, she was sought for requests to the King (vss. 13-18). In addition, her place was normally at the King's right hand (vs. 19); in art Mary when portrayed as the Heavenly Queen is often placed at Jesus's right hand, because his place as King of the Heavenly Israel makes her the Queen of the Heavenly Israel.
