Rajesh Rao is fascinated by "the mother of all crossword puzzles" - how to decipher the 4000 year old Indus script. At TED 2011, he tells how he is enlisting modern computational techniques to read the Indus language, the key piece to understanding this ancient civilization.

I had this topic on deck, viewed the vids, compiled the links, and was in no hurry to run the processor on the keyword buffer. Then, I got a link from algore to a brand new, more interesting development, and before I got around to posting that, BenLurkin posted the information from a different online source. So, that's a break for me. :^) It's a break for everyone, as a matter of fact. Link to that topic is below.

If he runs the 'puters long enough, he'll find that the Harappans wrote Hamlet.

BTW, and to all, I set the time index on each of the video links to skip (respectively) the five minute intro, the earlier segments to the documentary, and the ad for TedEd.

Nice job.
In this program we'll take a solid look at the Indus Valley Civilization (IVC) of northwest South Asia, also known as the Harappan Civilization. While it is clear that the people of this civilization were experts in urban planning, sanitation and drainage systems as well as some of the greatest traders of the ancient Bronze Age world, they are also among its most mysterious. This is in part due to their writing system still not being understood as well as the puzzle of their seemingly sudden disappearance from history. If you know very little about the IVC, then this is the video for you!
