Ep. 62 If fossil fuels come from fossils, why have scientists

found them on one of Saturn’s moons? A lot of what you’ve

heard about energy is false. Dr. Willie Soon explains.

You didn't watch the video

Proudly not watching the videos nor reading the articles before posting knee jerk responses since 2004.

Sinclair Oil’s logo was Dino the Dinosaur. Isn’t that proof enough that oil comes from fossils and not abiotic geo processes?

I think Gold’s ideas have merit. I have his first edition book and only recently purchased the 2nd edition. I’ll be curious to see if he’s amended any of his ideas. In his first edition he claimed his ideas also applied to coal. That I can’t see! Coal has fossils in it, maybe anthracite but that’s just a maybe. Also technically his theories aren’t really abiotic (Abiotic without biology.). His hypothesis is petroleum formation comes from geological processes which work on thermphile microbial colonies that live in between rock grains, in fissures, & in volcanic vents etc. (They’re also heavy metal tolerant! Normally toxic to other life!) Similar colonies live in deep ocean volcanic vents, they can even withstand water temperatures well above boiling. Drillers almost always complain about bacterial contamination in their bore holes. That was another pice of evidence he cited. All in all if you look at his arguments for petroleum origin is not that different from the standard explanation. (No dinosaurs!) Just ancient microbes, algae, krill, etc. turned into petroleum by geological processes. His key difference it’s on-going and much much faster than the older explanation. The Russians give considerable weight to his ideas. The US not so much. Anyway he’s dead and I don’t know of anyone in the US that has picked his ball up.

LibThink: We would build a long pipeline from one of those planets and provide 'gas' for centuries.

Thankfully I heard Biden say there will be a railroad across the Pacific to the Indian ocean.

There’s a video which claims to prove coal can be made from wood easily and quickly. There was a mountainside lined with timber which was dumped into a lake through a huge mudslide. A couple of years later divers examined the wood in the lake as it was calcifying (or something similar) and resembling coal. They did lab experiments and made rudimentary coal from wood in them. It’s on YouTube so it has to be true.

bet anyone who works in the white house knows that fossils create a lot of gas.

Petroleum geologist and geochemistry expert with nearly 2 decades of experience in the industry. First and foremost fossil fuels are not from fossils like animals. I have done well over ten thousand geochemical hydrocarbon analysis from most every major total hydrocarbon system on th e planet. Every single one had at least two biochemical or isotopic markers for having been sourced from the biosphere. Every single one bar none. Nearly every one had recognisable chemical signatures from microalgae, diatoms,or other forams or calcareous micro algae. Simply put liquid oil is fossil sunshine that was absorbed trillons of micro algae, protozoa, and other plankton in the upper reaches of an ocean basin or vast fresh water lake during a cold went period such as just after an ice age when the glaciers melted and flooded vast inland areas. The Greenriver shale in WY that holds 1.4 trillion bbls of shale oil is the typeset for freshwater algae oil you can still see the microfossils in core samples of the shale under magnification.

There has never been a peer reviewed presented paper let alone geechemical proof of abiotic oil. Never once at AAPG,SEG,or the IEA has anyone ever presented for peer review to us expert members of those societies and scientific community evidence of abiotic oil not even once. I challenge someone who holds to abiotic oil to bring forth a peer reviewed presented paper or duplicated research samples.

As to methane in the outer solar system this is easy to explain hydrogen is an unstable molecule in it’s monoatomic state it needs an electron hydrogen in space is monoatomic carbon is also created by solar fusion and supernova as monoatomic it lacks 4 electrons when mono C + H come in contact you get CH, then another H in the gaseous nebula of deep space to CH2...+H CH3...+H...CHa this is methane and it is stable and a neutral molecule. Space nebulae and planetary acceretion disks are full of methane floating free in space, same for all the other light stable gases CO2,H2O,N2. The reason the outer gas giants and their moons have the light gases is once the sun achieved fusion the solar wind stripped the light gases out of the inner solar system. Only farther away from the giant thermonuclear fireball could those condense around rocky cores to form the gas giants same for the moons orbiting them. This is freshmen college level astronomy. Titan has liquid methane and some liquid hydrocarbons that are light CH2+CH2 polymer chains the lander on titan proved those to be present. CH4 when hit by solar rays and more importantly cosmic rays of high energy can be split into CH2,CH,C and H or H2 depending on the energy level of the gamma, xray,or UV ray. CH2 is seeking to bond, it will try to.bond with free H+H again to go back to CH4, but a bit small amount will bond to another CH2 in a carbon to carbon bond...CH2+CH2+yields ethene a liquid at the surface temp of titan or the other gas giants. CH2+CH2+CH2 yields propene, then butene and up the alkene polymer chain sequence at titan temps anything above C4 would be a solid not a liquid the liquid hydrocarbons on titan and the outer planets is all C2 to C4 carbon chains those have nothing to do at all with the fully saturated petrochemical chains which are CH2+CH2+Hn with cyclic bonds, double and triple C=C bonds, aromatic ring C-C-C-C-C-C plus 8 carbon ring bonds, and branch chain plus isometric chain bonds in other words apple’s to oranges.

The only evidence of abiotic hydrocarbons on earth are some methane from deep in the crust near the MOHO with the mantle in subduction zones. calcareous rocks fully saturated with seawater being dragged into the mantle can undergo hydrolysis and form CO,H2 and CO2 in the presence of iron sediments methananization can occur this has been done in the lab. You get solid carbon a stable element, CH4 and CO2 you do not get CH2=CH2 or CH2=CH2+Hn the temps are too high for this a bonds to exist methane is barely stable and as you go deeper you get solid carbon and H2 with zero hydrocarbons. Gold hydrogen has been discovered all over the planet that’s geological hydrogen for those not in industry. The isotopes show it’s from near the crust / mantle interface. Very little mantle sourced methane has been found due to the nature of subduction zones they lack the geology to form gas traps over the subduction zones any gases formed simply rise and escape or are eaten by microbes. Whole communities have been found thriving on methane seeps this is why it’s not just bubbling to the surface. Same for deep biosphere life. Methane eating bacteria have been found at 3+ miles depth most of the mantle methane is eaten by the deep biosphere. The largest methane reserves on earth are methane hydrates on the continental slopes and shallow basins it is thought some could be mantle methane trapped by the rigth conditions of temperature pressure and cold deep water forming methane water ice hybrids. That said every sample of hydrates that been core samples or produced gas all had clear biological carbon isotope ratios and the hydrogen and oxygen isotopes all shows contact and sourcing from the biosphere. Same for coal the sample can be put under an electron microscope and you can see the plant walls, or the former cell vacuoles. Coal only very rarely goes through the geological petroleum window of pressure and temp when it does you get mostly benzene rings and lots of methane with some asphaltones on the heavy ends. Still with geochem the biological signatures are still there.

Abiotic oil is a unproven pipe dream. The age of cheap oil has 50 years at most than humans best be using nuclear power in a big way along with the other hydrocarbons of methane hydrates, and coal via underground coal gasification technology which opens 6 to 8 times the existing reserves from 300 years to 900 plus UCG doesn’t slew mercury and radioactive ash up the smoke stacks it’s pure clean syngas after the well head gas is cleaned up with tech that’s decades old.
