PARIS -- Where has NATO been during this pandemic? U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron have repeatedly referred to their nations being at war with the coronavirus, so why haven't we seen a coordinated international response to the "attack"? The North Atlantic Treaty Organization operates on the premise that an attack on one member country warrants a response by all. In 2003, NATO formed the Multinational Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense Battalion. According to NATO's website, this unit is "prepared for deployment in crisis situations such as natural disasters, infectious disease outbreaks and industrial accidents,...

Health Minister Oliver Veran warned that it was too early to assess the impact of the easing. But he added there was so far no sign that the virus was regaining impetus. "It takes at least 10 to 15 days for us to know if there is an...

Bill Withers who passed away at the age of 81 in Los Angeles sings one of his well-known songs... It is time for us to lean on each other and support each other the sentiment expressed by Ammon Bundy this week saying: "....I don't think there's ever been a time in our lifetime anyway where there's more need for us to unite to be united on important matters to be supporting each other to be bringing truth to each other and protection for each other...." In face of all the government restrictions Bundy bringing together people for a meeting in...

"Hello Goodbye" by the Beatles, a number one song from early 1968 here in the USA. That's around the time my father left the factory to higher paying and longer lasting government employment as inflation kicked in here in the USA. Lyndon Johnson was ramping up government with Medicare and Medicaid and the cost of medical care was beginning to skyrocket, debt was beginning to accumulate and wow here we are 23 trillion dollars plus later. The 2021 federal budget proposed by President Trump adds another 966 billion to that. Well the currency is devalued and its easy to tell...

Marine Le Pen, the president of the French populist right-wing party Rassemblement National (National Rally), congratulated the United Kingdom for regaining its “freedom” but went on to say that Brexit was a “terrifying failure” for the European Union. “After multiple twist and turns, the UK has finally regained its freedom. But this is a terrifying failure for the EU”, said Ms Le Pen. “We will no doubt see, over the coming months and years, that the UK did the right thing and will probably benefit a great deal. In fact, I have already noticed that the disaster-mongering has already given...

French president Emmanuel Macron today launched a furious English language attack on heavily armed Israeli security guards for following him into a French church in Jerusalem. The 42-year-old head of state erupted in anger after officers broke diplomatic protocol by walking into Saint Anne's, in the city's Old Town, on Wednesday. 'Everybody knows the rules,' Macron shouted. 'I don't like what you did in front of me. Go outside!' It was an echo of a similar row his predecessor Jacques Chirac had at the church in 1996. New statistics from the French Interior Ministry have revealed a significant increase in violent crimes with a 12 per cent rise in sexual violence and an 8.5 per cent rise in murders. In 2018, the increase had been even greater at 19 per cent, French newspaper Le Figaro reports. “All French regions have experienced increases in the number of rapes, assaults, and sexual harassment recorded by the security forces in 2019, notably Corsica, Centre-Val-de-Loire, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine,”...

After a royal reception for NATO members at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation News & Politics posted a video online in which it appears that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is making fun of President Donald Trump to President Emmanuel Macron of France, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Princess Anne. In the brief clip, Johnson asks, “Is that while you were late?” with a smile on face, to which Trudeau responds, “He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top,” followed by the statement, “You just watch his team’s jaws drop...

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday admitted he was joking about President Trump with other world leaders — but minimized the incident, saying he had a “positive” relation with Trump and agreed that NATO countries should spend more on defense. “I have a very productive and positive relationship with Mr. Trump … we will continue to have an excellent relationship,” Trudeau told reporters during a briefing in London at the NATO meeting. “He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top — ‘Oh, ya, ya ya,’” Trudeau said. “You just watched his team’s jaws drop...

Three years ago, Donald Trump began a rhetorical offensive targeting the governments of NATO nations that chronically failed to meet their allied defense financial commitments. With bombastic huff, Trump intimated that allies pay their share or America might walk. It's 2019. Few NATO members currently meet the 2% GDP defense commitment. However, several once-laggard NATO nations have increased military spending, and the alliance is stronger for it. The era of blithe freeloading has ended. Cheapskates like Germany pay a price in lost prestige. America not only hasn't walked; it is modernizing its forces. Earlier this year, President Trump began grousing...

As the impeachment inquiry heats up in Washington, with the House Judiciary Committee set to hold its first public hearing Wednesday, President Trump has found himself in tense moments with fellow world leaders at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit in London. The leaders, who are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the transatlantic alliance, are meeting Wednesday at a golf resort outside of London to discuss threats including terrorism, arms control and China. But tension among the leaders of NATO member countries over the alliance's role also appears to pose a threat to the partnership.

PARIS -- French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's Grande Armee finally met its match when it encountered frigid winter weather in Russia. Perhaps cold weather could work in France's favor this time, as French public-sector workers have announced a massive general strike for this week just as temperatures are expected to plummet to near zero degrees Celsius. Not much has changed since Napoleon invaded Russia in 1812: The French still bring out the scarves before summer officially ends. And leftist union leaders here still haven't figured out how to get their way without taking the citizenry hostage. The national strike was scheduled...

LONDON — It was a NATO anniversary celebration designed specifically to avoid unwanted disruptions. But those drama-free plans were upended Tuesday when President Emmanuel Macron of France aggressively challenged President Trump during a televised appearance. And early Wednesday brought another surprise, as a brief video surfaced that showed grinning world leaders at a Buckingham Palace reception apparently commiserating about Mr. Trump’s unorthodox ways. ...
