<p>The medical examiner has identified the remains of 1,500 World Trade Center victims, a milestone that represents slightly more than half the number of people killed.</p>
<p>Chief Medical Examiner Charles Hirsch has said his goal is to eventually reach 2,000 identifications, but has acknowledged that could take years as DNA technology improves.</p>
<p>Some remains were burned or otherwise degraded so badly that their DNA may never yield results. Other victims were essentially vaporized in the collapse, and likely won't be found.</p>
