For nearly two weeks, the players of the Rev. John Foundation Little League team from Kampala, Uganda, believed they were headed to Williamsport, Pa., for the Little League World Series. The team of 11- to 13-year-olds, which plays with donated equipment, was the first African team to advance that far. But their fairy tale story ran smack into United States immigration red tape. The players and their coaches learned this week that at least some of the team’s visa applications were denied by the State Department. The Little League World Series, which begins Aug. 19, will proceed without them.

It was a far cry from a march on the nation's Capitol, but the rally staged Saturday by the Williamsport Tea Party at Brandon Park clearly sent out a message that more than a few people are upset with their government. Speaker after speaker coming to the microphone on this overcast and humid late morning managed to resonate with the crowd of some 2,800 people as they urged them to take back their country from leaders who are "taking them down the wrong path." Specific political topics such as national health care, socialism and uncontrolled spending came up for no...

Good Things In August There are two good things to look forward to in the dog days of August. The Little League World Series will be running through Aug. 24, and a lot of it will be broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2. The other good thing is a Kevin Costner Western. I haven't seen the movie, "Open Range," yet, but I have faith in Costner. I have really liked all of the movies he's had control over — "Dances With Wolves," "Waterworld" and "The Postman." I especially liked "The Postman." And he's directing, as well as starring in, his new...
