The newest star of the Democratic Party, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, launched her New York congressional campaign by declaring “women like me aren’t supposed to run for office” — a jarring embrace of her distinction as a 28-year-old Latina less than a year removed from a job tending bar. Her campaign slogan: “It’s time for one of us.” That appeal to the tribal identities of class, age, gender and ethnicity turned out to be a good gamble, steering her to the nomination in a year when Democratic voters are increasingly embracing diversity as a way to realize the change they seek in...

Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio? Or George Washington Or Daniel Boone or Alvin York or George Patton or... Paul Mann wants to create a safe space for white men. Mann, a white man who has spent years in the education industry, has begun leading workshops in San Francisco that encourage people in his demographic to explore feelings about race and gender and think about how to better assist women and nonwhites in their workplaces. Most diversity training is inclusive of all races and genders. But Stepping Up, Mann’s program that began in January, is unusual because the workshops are...

The most significant revelation in a new Pew Research Center analysis of partisan identification is the extent to which Democrats and Republicans no longer resemble one another demographically. Nearly 4 in 10 Democrats are nonwhite, while 83 percent of Republicans are white. Six in 10 Republicans are whites without a college degree; only a third of Democrats are. A third of Republicans are white evangelical Christians; a third of Democrats are religiously unaffiliated. Pew’s data highlighted two consistent trends: Women are much more likely to identify as Democrats than Republicans, while men are more split. White Americans (as was probably...

Between 1982 and 2017, 92 of 95 mass shootings in the US were carried out by men, and only three involved a woman. After another mass shooting in a school, Americans are seeking to solve the problem of gun violence. Nikolas Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of murder after a shooting at his old school, where he had been expelled for "disciplinary reasons". Of 95 mass shootings carried out in the US between 1982 and 2017, 92 of the perpetrators were male. The final three are made up of two women, and one case of one man and...

The British Transport Police are disadvantaging white, male applicants by excluding them from recruitment workshops. The force is holding the workshops in London, Manchester, and Birmingham — but one would-be officer was turned away after being told they were for “women and black or ethnic minority” candidates only, reports The Metro. “I am a white heterosexual male and also a member of the armed forces, how can a public service blatantly support this kind of discrimination and inequality in 2017?” he told the newspaper. “I am going to withdraw my application due to having been treated in such a manner.” Metro’s correspondent Harley Tamplin seemed...

(CNN)In the wake of one of the worst massacres in modern American history, our government's highest leaders will be silent about why things like this keep happening. "Warmest condolences" will be tweeted to families of those who lost their lives, minutes of mourning will pass and murmurs of mental health issues and lone-wolf actors will taper into silence. Taming homegrown terror and tightening gun control will be dismissed as inappropriate or unnecessary politicizing of a tragedy and quickly become secondary to more pressing issues on the administration's agenda. America has been here before. In fact, America has been here 273...

IT IS INSUFFICIENT TO STATE the obvious of Donald Trump: that he is a white man who would not be president were it not for this fact. With one immediate exception, Trump’s predecessors made their way to high office through the passive power of whiteness—that bloody heirloom which cannot ensure mastery of all events but can conjure a tailwind for most of them. Land theft and human plunder cleared the grounds for Trump’s forefathers and barred others from it. Once upon the field, these men became soldiers, statesmen, and scholars; held court in Paris; presided at Princeton; advanced into the...

The 22-year-old man suspected of shooting five middle-aged white men since last year — including four on south Kansas City walking trails — threatened in 2014 to shoot up a school and “kill all white people,” according to court records...All five were white men between ages 54 and 67. All five were fatally shot, most from behind, in surprise attacks as they walked dogs, visited parks and, in one case, walked down a city street.

Police have arrested a man named Fredrick Demond Scott, a suspect in a years-long series of at least five murders in the Kansas City area. However, a long time before this arrest investigative Journalist and best-selling author Jack Cashill was on the trail of the killings and noting a pattern. All of the victims were white males, and all followed a specific pattern within the geography.

A mysterious series of apparently random killings in Kansas City, mostly committed in isolated spots along walking trails, came to an end when the killer deviated from his pattern with a brazen, execution-style shooting in broad daylight on a city street, according to Jackson County prosecutors. The fifth and final killing came shortly after noon on Aug. 13, when 22-year-old Fredrick Demond Scott allegedly followed a man from a city bus, crept up behind him on the street and shot him in the head — before turning and getting right back on a bus. Like the other four victims Scott...

Modern science is mostly based on discoveries by white men. Therefore, it is racist and sexist and must be replaced with a new science. Enraged by the mild deviations from liberal orthodoxy that got James Damore fired from Google, Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, a physics researcher at the University of Washington, is ready to do her part: Prescod-Weinstein takes issue with the contention—related to her by a “well-known scientist”—that “the Google memo failed to constitute hostile behavior because it cited peer-reviewed articles that suggest women have different brains,” arguing that “peer-reviewed” is not synonymous with “correct.”

Otto Warmbier, a 22-year-old American student imprisoned by North Korea for over a year for attempting to steal a propaganda poster, has died after coming home to Ohio last week. He showed signs of severe brain damage though North Korean officials claimed he had contracted botulism during his imprisonment. His original sentence was 15 years of hard labor but he was released early due to his health. From the Cincinnati Enquirer:

The decision by Salem State trustees to choose a white male former state representative as the new president of the university has disappointed some faculty and ignited a simmering debate about the lack of gender and racial diversity in the top ranks of public higher education. To critics, the selection of John D. Keenan fit a troubling pattern of trustees at Massachusetts public colleges and universities turning to well-known local politicians to serve as presidents, rather than outside candidates with more experience in education.

Rep. Debbie Dingell said Sunday she “wanted to cry” over the AHCA vote and was “deeply disturbed” by the number of white men involved in its passage. “Most of your [Senate] colleagues…have said that they’re gonna back to square one on [the AHCA],” said MSNBC host Thomas Roberts. “But it’s a majority of men. I think 13 men on the Senate side reviewing this.” Dingell sighed and rolled her eyes before responding. “Look, it deeply disturbed me,” Dingell said. “I watched in shock the picture of the Rose Garden after what happened in the House. I really wanted to cry.”...

When did the word “optics” enter the political lexicon? In any case, the Morning Joe crew today ripped the look of the Republican Rose Garden ceremony of yesterday at which President Trump and House members celebrated the passage of their health care bill. Donny Deutsch said they were “a bunch of fat, middle-aged, rich white guys.” When Willie Geist mentioned that Mika had said that the photo looked like a golf course ribbon cutting, Joe Scarborough interjected: “it’s a country club with restrictive membership. Obviously, you have to be white, and a male, to be there.” View the video here.

In most countries there has been a strong trend for people to live longer over the past 50 years. But in the case of white Americans aged 45-54, mortality appears to have gone the other way.

White professors — especially “senior white males” — are under fire at Virginia Commonwealth University as an impediment to diversity and inclusion. An extensive campus climate survey of faculty and staff at the large, Richmond-based public institution has found that the majority of employees are upset that not enough white male professors attend campus diversity trainings, not enough professors infuse social justice into their curricula, and not enough professors of color, especially female ones, teach at the school.

In the latest example of everyday industries being injected with social justice and race based politics, Outside Magazine has published an article in it's latest release lamenting that the outdoors industry has become "too White". Novelist Toni Morrison, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, the Nobel Prize, and the American Book Award, has written a short essay in the New Yorker magazine about the recent presidential election. In the piece, Morrison writes that the election of Donald Trump to the presidency is part of a reaction by white men to an increasingly multicultural society. “Under slave laws,” Morrison writes, “the necessity for color rankings was obvious, but in America today, post-civil-rights legislation, white people’s conviction of their natural superiority is being lost. Rapidly lost. There are ‘people of color' everywhere, threatening to erase this long-understood definition...

To keep alive the perception of white superiority, these white Americans tuck their heads under cone-shaped hats and American flags and deny themselves the dignity of face-to-face confrontation, training their guns on the unarmed, the innocent, the scared, on subjects who are running away, exposing their unthreatening backs to bullets. Surely, shooting a fleeing man in the back hurts the presumption of white strength? The sad plight of grown white men, crouching beneath their (better) selves, to slaughter the innocent during traffic stops, to push black women’s faces into the dirt, to handcuff black children. Only the frightened would do...
