On Sept. 5, Ukrainian Facebook users were shocked as the world's biggest social network seemed to deliberately overlook some abusive posts related to the war in Ukraine's east. A day before, on Sept. 4, Facebook user Xela Rekrap posted a picture of the body of a dead Ukrainian soldier hanging on the high voltage wires. A brutal commentary accompanied the image. "A minute of soldier's humour. Starobesheve village. Our militants hung a dead Ukrainian trooper on the wires with the help of a fire truck. Let him fly," read the description.

KYIV, September 8 /Ukrinform/. The self-declared “DPR” stops a process of exchange of captives since it says that it has not received a list of captured militants. This is said on the website of terrorists. “There are fears that we will release everyone, and Kyiv will try to cheat,” acting “minister of state security” of the “DPR” Leonid Baranov said. Due to this, the “DPR” is not planning to release about 1,000 Ukrainian military in order not to become, as they allege, “victims of fraud.”

Volunteers are dismissed from their service, receive a one-time financial compensation of 200,000 rubles [about $5,500] and are sent to the war zone as 'natural persons,'" Lysenko said. He said that after being involved in the fulfillment of...

Wrapped in a Ukrainian flag, Irina Dovgan is forced to stand at a Donetsk intersection with a sign identifying her as a spy and reading: "She kills our children." A woman berates and then kicks Dovgan as a man holding a rifle looks on. Images of the scene that unfolded in eastern Ukraine in August sparked outrage and concern for the initially unidentified woman. Dovgan's name was eventually revealed and her story told, including to RFE/RL's Russian Service in an exclusive interview.

Despite the agreement and the officer’s word from the Russian commander, there was no withdrawal corridor for the Ukrainian troops encircled near Ilovajsk. As the Ukrainians started the withdrawal, the Russian troops opened fire regardless of the fact that there were Russian POWs in the column, deputy Dnipropetrovsk governor Boris Filatov wrote in Facebook, referring to those Ukrainian soldiers who managed to escape.

There is more and more evidence that Russian soldiers are fighting – and dying – on Ukrainian territory, and that the so-called ‘humanitarian convoy’ may have been used to take the dead back to Russia, including paratroopers from Pskov killed near Luhansk A day of mourning has been declared in the Russian city of Pskov on Aug 26. This comes five days after the Ukrainian armed captured two armed personnel carriers and reportedly discovered documents identifying men as paratroopers from the Pskov airborne brigade No. 74268. It has long been known that a large number of Russian mercenaries, as well...

It looks extremely likely that at least some of the considerable number of men from the Caucuses long known to be fighting on the side of the Kremlin-backed militants in eastern Ukraine are or died as soldiers of the Russian Army. The Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers in the Stavropol area has drawn up a list of around four hundred Russian soldiers killed or injured. The head of the Committee Ludmila Bogatenkova told TV Dozhd that the list was put together from various sources in the armed forces which, for obvious reasons, she cannot reveal.. The names are from several mechanical...

In its editorial comment, Vedomosti.ru warns that “in the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine the Russian authorities are in danger of repeating the mistakes of the Soviet regime”/ It asks: “Is Russia fighting in Ukraine and if so, then on what grounds? If not, then who is in those freshly-dug graves or giving testimony at SBU interrogations?” Even Russian President Vladimir Putin’s KGB predecessors were unable to keep the death of large numbers of people secret, though they certainly tried. Efforts are still underway in Pskov and other parts of Russia to conceal the death or injury of a...

A group of Russian servicemen detained in eastern Ukraine did not get lost, but were carrying out a special task, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) spokesman Andriy Lysenko has said.

Russian soldiers captured by Ukrainian forces entered Ukraine by mistake, a Defense Ministry source has told Russian state news agency RIA Novosti. “The soldiers were patrolling the Russian-Ukrainian border when they most likely crossed accidentally at an unequipped and unmarked checkpoint,” said the unnamed source. On the evening on Aug. 25, the Security Service of Ukraine, or SBU, said it had captured 10 Russian soldiers in the village of Dzerkalny, Donetsk Oblast, roughly 14 kilometers from the Russian border in a statement on its website. The capture of the Russian soldiers comes at a time when border tensions between Ukraine...

When pro-Russian separatists marched captured Ukrainian soldiers at bayonet-point through the streets of Donetsk over the weekend, the crowd jeered, cursed, and hurled refuse at the haggard prisoners. It was a spectacle that shocked many, including human rights activists who called the procession a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions' rules on the treatment of prisoners of war (POWs). But whether the forced march constituted a war crime -- and whether it could be prosecuted as such -- is not so clear-cut, international law experts say. This ambiguity lies largely in how the Ukraine conflict itself is classified, according to...

More than Benghazi skeletons should haunt Hillary Clinton's expected 2016 presidential bid. It now seems that the entire war in Libya -- where thousands died in a civil war in which no U.S. interest was at stake -- might well have been averted on her watch and, of course, that of President Obama's. How? In March 2011, immediately after NATO's punishing bombing campaign began, Muammar Qaddafi was "ready to step aside," says retired Rear Admiral Charles R. Kubic, U.S. Navy. "He was willing to go into exile and was willing to end the hostilities." What happened? According to Kubic, the...

In a sickening video posted on YouTube, soldiers from the Syrian-based group Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) were seen holding up the decapitated head of a soldier they believed was a supporter of President Bashar al-Assad. But, after the footage was made public, the victim was recognised by an extremist as a fellow rebel fighter who had been wounded during a battle. The militants have now asked for forgiveness. A young Christian girl beheaded in Syria. The sign of extremism and fanatics, the long beards, is present in each and everyone of these subhuman Muslims who killed this small child, in their jihad to Allah – inspired by the Quran. This is Obama, Britain, France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey funded and supported handiwork. Don’t put your support behind any of these people, whether for military action in Syria, asylum, immigration, another hate preaching mosque. This is what is moving into your town, your country, your society, your neighborhood: video... This video is written with false propaganda claiming...

Take a good hard look at the photo. Looking away from it will not change the fact that it happened. This girl’s family had different religious views from the Syrian Rebel Army. When the “Free Syrian Army” marched into her town, they chained her to a fence and forced her to watch as her parents were tortured and killed for their religion. These are the same “Free Syrian Army” soldiers that Obama just violated international law to provide weapons to. I will not gross people out with the graphic video or the violence that happens over there daily under the...
