".....DeLay began by admitting Republicans “did lose” the fight over the budget and the debt ceiling. Echoing the words of House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), he said, “They put up a good fight. O appreciate everyone that voted against the deal yesterday and stood up and fought. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough votes to carry out the fight and win.” When Baldwin brought up Republicans’ crumbling approval ratings, Delay accused her of pushing a “media narrative” with those numbers. “I have no narrative, sir,” she responded. “I’m just right in the middle, just asking the question.” “I’m not attacking you,...

A lot of conservatives are now trying to minimize the damage the GOP suffered after the 21-day government shutdown of 1995-1996. They point out, correctly, that even though President Clinton was re-elected, Republicans held the House (losing just three seats on net) and gained two Senate seats. What they fail to mention or appreciate is that this was not a good performance for the GOP that year...They narrowly lost four other close contests, and have since managed to gain only one of those four missed seats.

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Congress should try to avoid a government shutdown, but if Congress fails to reach an agreement over the next three days, then the shuttering of government would not hurt Republicans.

“If there is a shutdown, this notion that it hurts the Republicans is totally wrong,” Mr. Delay said on CNN’s “New Day.”

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay tells Newsmax that he is planning a book and a lecture tour now that an appellate court has overturned the criminal conviction that put his career on hold for seven long years. … At a time when House Republican leaders such as Speaker John Boehner are under fire from the right for not pushing a conservative agenda and younger tea party House members are criticized for driving their colleagues to the right, the Texan won’t get into name-calling among the Republican side of the aisle he once dominated. … Newsmax asked DeLay about the...

Sliding under the radar on Thursday was the announcement that former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay had been exonerated of all charges stemming from the politically motivated prosecution orchestrated by Democrat shill and former Travis County (TX) district attorney Ronnie Earle. That’s right. Exonerated. The Texas Court of Appeals ruled that not only was the evidence presented not sufficient to sustain a conviction but that no law had even been broken. So after nearly a decade since the original indictment, Tom DeLay is a free man though he is deeply in debt from the protracted litigation and his political career lies...

It is a scandal that there has been and will be no serious jail time in the matter of former Republican majority leader Tom DeLay — Ronnie Earle, the hyperpartisan Democratic prosecutor whose risible case against DeLay has just been finally thrown out by the Third District Texas Court of Appeals, richly deserves to be measured for an all-orange wardrobe. After eleven years, the matter of Mr. DeLay’s fund-raising in the 2002 election cycle has been finally put to rest, with Mr. Earle’s case having been vivisected by Justice Melissa Goodwin, who in her quietly scathing opinion did not bother...

>BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Tom DeLay. Tom DeLay's nickname was "The Hammer." The Democrats thought that was very bad. He was nicknamed "The Hammer" because DeLay had magic when it came time to corral votes on the Republican side in the House of Representatives, starting back in 1995 when the Republican freshman class was sworn in and they assumed control of the House for the first time in 40 years, Tom DeLay was the whip. Tom DeLay got the votes. He was nicknamed "The Hammer," and because he was so good, he was unapologetically good, Tom DeLay did not worry about...

SNIP Hagel, however, has friends in Democratic lobbying circles. The powerful Washington D.C. organization known as the Podesta Group is reportedly asking defense contractors for financial support to run ads defending the Hagel nomination. Will Texas Have to Change Its Campaign Spending Law? Will Tom Delay have his Conviction Overturned? According to the AP, the Supreme Court today has (again) ruled that corporations have the right to spend freely to advocate for or against candidates for state and local offices. The justices struck down a Montana law limiting corporate campaign spending, but this case will have a ripple effect on all other states. Texas is a state that does not allow corporations to spend money in Texas state and local election. In fact, former Speaker of the united States House of Representatives, Tom Delay,...

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said yesterday that Republicans have done so well in cutting spending that he declared an “ongoing victory,” and said there is simply no fat left to cut in the federal budget. Mr. DeLay was defending Republicans’ choice to borrow money and add to this year’s expected $331 billion deficit to pay for Hurricane Katrina relief. Some Republicans have said Congress should make cuts in other areas, but Mr. DeLay said that doesn’t seem possible... Asked if that meant the government was running at peak efficiency, Mr. DeLay said, “Yes, after 11 years of Republican majority...

On January 10, 2011, former Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tom Delay, was sentenced to three years in jail for his participation in a money laundering conspiracy. Now, his attorney blames the Tea Party, in part, for his conviction. (snip) DeLay's attorney, Dick DeGuerin, explained the Tea Party connection by saying, "We went to trial on the very day people across the country, voters, rebelled against politics." While DeLay presumably does not differ much ideologically from the Tea Party, their inconveniently timed uprising might have irritated liberal jury members, who took their wrath out on Delay.

With Texas judge Pat Priest imposing a sentence of three years in prison on former House majority leader Tom DeLay, it is not an exaggeration to say that this is the culmination of an undeserved, unjustified, and unconscionable act of political persecution. It is the result of an abusive prosecution that exemplifies the drive to criminalize politics and to make the ordinary processes of raising and spending funds for political campaigns a crime. The man who should be on trial in Texas is Ronnie Earle, the unethical Travis County prosecutor who went after DeLay as part of a political vendetta...
