The momentum that had been building around Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) as a possible vice presidential pick for Joe Biden has come to an abrupt halt amid controversy over Cuba. The suggestion that Bass harbored some degree of past sympathy for the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro has caused consternation among Democrats in Florida. They worry that selecting Bass could seriously endanger Biden’s chances in the largest of the battleground states. The stakes could hardly be higher, they warn. Picking Bass “violates the central tenet of a vice presidential selection, which is ‘Do no harm,’” according to Florida-based pollster and...

To understand just how normalized radical ideas are on college campuses, look at the curriculum for which students pay thousands and thousands of dollars. From their first steps on campus for orientation to walking across the stage on graduation day, students are usually bombarded with leftist propaganda. College campuses facilitate the perfect environment for indoctrination, providing a platform for radical professors to teach their opinion as fact. As a young woman in college, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to stand behind conservative values in the face of leftist campus culture.Conservative parents are in a catch-22. While still...

An artist has sent an unusual, but very clear message to the Czech Republic president ahead of parliamentary elections. Sculptor David Cerny created a giant purple hand -- extending an oversized middle finger -- and placed it on a pontoon boat on Prague’s main Vltava river Monday. The giant gesture floated near the famous Charles Bridge, visible from Prague Castle, where Czech President Milos Zeman would have a perfect view. Cerny -- who is locally known for his anti-communist stance -- designed the stunt before this week’s parliamentary elections, which could give the communists a taste of power almost a...

Politico reported this morning that "Henry R. Muñoz III of San Antonio -- an Obama bundler and a national chairman of the Futuro Fund, a group of Latino leaders who raised money for the president’s reelection -- is expected to be named DNC Finance Chair, the first Latino to hold the title." What's also interesting about Muñoz, though Politico omitted this fact, is that he at least once dined with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. "Muñoz’s clout has only expanded in the ensuing years — in politics, philanthropy and his profession," mysanantonio.com reported two years ago.

Let’s pretend that in the spring of 2012 Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform, John Engler of the Business Roundtable, Tim Phillips of Americans for Prosperity, and Wayne LaPierre of the National Rifle Association began to organize an assembly of right-leaning groups. Let’s pretend that in the months since there had been not one but two meetings where these luminaries joined with representatives of Christians United For Israel, the American Enterprise Institute, the Heritage Foundation, the Tea Party Express, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, and the American Petroleum Institute to discuss strategy and promote a series of “structural...

Boy, I really hate it when American judges try to impose harsh Islamic sharia law. You know, with all those grisly lashings, stonings and beheadings. What's that you say? No such thing is happening, and you wonder where I got such a crazy idea? Why, Newt Gingrich told me. On Saturday, speaking at the conservative Values Voter Summit, Gingrich issued a thunderous call for action against an imminent threat that exists only in his fevered imagination -- or, perhaps, in his political machinations. "We should have a federal law that says sharia law cannot be recognized by any court in...

I’m not sure how relevant the CEO of ACORN is anymore, but at least she’s not hiding her stripes. She attended a Young Democratic Socialists meeting in late March and said we are living in a time -- referring to the TEA party movement -- that will dwarf the era of Jim Crow and segregation. Watch the video...

A MELBOURNE bookstore has sparked outrage after being discovered selling a "control a woman" remote - on International Women's Day. The ABC reported Borders was forced to defend the $15 novelty product after a woman told of her anger at seeing it during last week's celebration of female rights and achievements. Katie Robertson told ABC Radio she was "troubled" by the toy, "mainly because it encourages a stereotype of women as submissive, who are to be controlled". "There are certain buttons on there. For example, the male may decide that he wants beer, sex or food," she said. "He may...

This is what appears to anger today's Russian historical establishment: accounts of Red Army crimes on the march to Berlin; assertions by the Baltic countries and others in Eastern Europe that Soviet forces came as occupiers as much as liberators; any suggestion that Stalin's Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were anything but complete opposites and bitter enemies.

To understand anything, we have to know its history. To understand who stole our culture, we need to take a look at the history of "political correctness." Early Marxist theory Before World War I, Marxist theory said that if Europe ever erupted in war, the working classes in every European country would rise in revolt, overthrow their governments and create a new Communist Europe. But when war broke out in the summer of 1914, that didn't happen. Instead, the workers in every European country lined up by the millions to fight their country's enemies. Finally, in 1917, a Communist revolution...

Sen. Alan Lowenthal thinks it's about time that California removes some of the last vestiges of the Cold War from its laws. The Long Beach Democrat has introduced a bill that would scrap statutes allowing teachers and other public employees to be fired for being members of the Communist Party. The measure, scheduled to be considered Wednesday by the Senate Education Committee, also would drop a requirement that representatives of organizations seeking to use school facilities sign a form stating they do not have communist affiliations. Lowenthal said the measure would drop old laws that were adopted at the height...

Recall the embarrassment Hillary Clinton suffered when she tried to explain she'd been named after Sir Edmund Hillary after he'd climbed Mount Everest -- only to have it pointed out that she had been five years old at that time? Well, she still seems a little confused about her birth date. Here's an interesting passage in today's debate: Hillary: We've got to enlist the American people the way we did in a previous generation for the Apollo program. As a little girl, I remember being thrilled about that, and feeling there was something I could do. [Shrugs] My fifth-grade teacher...

Why has the left's poisoned love affair with it endured? Communism, like nuclear fuel, has a long afterlife. In country after country across Europe - from Russia to Albania - it has been discredited for its record in power. No government in Africa or the Americas subscribes to it except the Castro regime in Cuba. In Asia, the communist flag is waved in Vietnam and China without anyone denying that the economic future lies with capitalism; only North Korea stands by the basic precepts of Marxism-Leninism.What happened in the October 1917 revolution in Russia was an ideological bank robbery. Its...

Warsaw - Poland's conservative Law and Justice (PiS) government of Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski has drafted laws intended to 'remove the symbols of communist rule from public life.' If passed by parliament, the use of the names of communist leaders for streets, schools, bridges, parks or even ships, planes and trains would be banned, Poland's TVN24 news channel reported Thursday. The draft would also annul all medals, orders and honorary titles issued by communist authorities from 1944 until the collapse of communism in 1989. The proposed laws are in line with a PiS drive to remove the vestiges of the...

(AP) NASHUA, N.H. -- Democratic Party leaders in New Hampshire are disavowing a legislative candidate in Nashua who identified himself on a questionnaire as a Democrat and a Communist. Twenty-two-year-old Daniel Keating is one of five candidates running for three seats House District 25, in the Nashua area. Keating is listed on the ballot as a Democrat, but in a questionnaire for The Nashua Telegraph's online voter guide, he also described his party affiliation as Communist Party of the United States of America. Keating said Monday that he joined the Communist Party USA about a year ago because it promotes...

TRANSCRIPT OF THE PRIME MINISTER THE HON JOHN HOWARD MP ADDRESS TO THE QUADRANT MAGAZINE 50TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER, FOUR SEASONS HOTEL, SYDNEY Thank you very much Paddy McGuinness, Chief Justice, Justices, Your Eminence, Your Grace, my Parliamentary colleagues and ladies and gentlemen. I’m finally succumbing to Peter Garrett’s advice and its great to embrace an evening of culture and poetry and all of that after overdosing on my Philistine sporting pursuits over the weekend in almost the four corners of the Earth, from one side of the country to the other. But it really is an enormous pleasure for Janette...
