In the early hours of Friday morning March 11th (e.g., sometime after midnight on Thursday), [someone] went into our church, ripped out the Tabernacle, and stole it with Jesus in it!!!!! [the Holy Eucharist was reserved in the Tabernacle] Please spread the word asking others to pray for three intentions: (1) to make reparation for this horrible crime, (2) for the repentance and conversion of those who did this, and (3) for the recovery of the consecrated Hosts. Thank you! Sincerely in Christ, [a parish member, Holy Family Church, via email]

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has opened its signature pulpit to an evangelical Christian preacher in what organizers see as a watershed event for promoting good will and discussion among Utahns of various faiths. The event is two months away, but it is already generating discussion in the state's faith community. Ravi Zacharias, an internationally known apologist, philosopher and author, will speak at the Tabernacle on Temple Square in November as part of a three-night speaking engagement in Utah. Some have compared Zacharias' style and tone to that of Christian philosopher C.S. Lewis. He has addressed audiences...

This is an interesting article, not only becasue it reports on the ghastly theft of a tabernacle from a Catholic church, but becasue it's clear that parishioners there are very concerned about profanation of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Day of Atonement: Removal of Sin's Cause and Reconciliation to God We have already seen-through the symbolism involved in the Passover-that Christ's shed blood atones for our past sins. In fact, atonement means reconciliation. The Day of Atonement symbolizes the reconciliation of God and all humanity. If we are reconciled to God through Christ's sacrifice, why do we need another Holy Day to teach us about reconciliation? If we are already reconciled, why do we need to fast, as commanded on the Day of Atonement? (Leviticus 23:27; Acts 27:9). What is this day's specific significance in God's master...

Maria Fugazi (not her real name) prays regularly in a rosary group that meets in St. Charles Borromeo Church across from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Barnett Avenue. One day in early August she noticed her pastor, Father Gary Holtey, talking with what appeared to be an architect about moving the tabernacle from its prominent central position to the church's cry room. She said that when she realized what was happening she was "devastated." "He never made it official, but he was hoping to do it. In a few conversations he mentioned that he would like to have it...
