Rep. Ilhan Omar's (D-Minn) daughter Isra Hirsi was one of 108 students arrested at the request of Columbia University President Nemat "Minouche" Shafik. "I took this extraordinary step because these are extraordinary circumstances. The individuals who established the encampment violated a long list of rules and policies. The vile and overt anti-Semitism has made many other students feel unsafe." Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich) called the arrests "an unjustified suppression of freedom of speech. These students are protesting Israel's indiscriminate massacre of Palestinians in retaliation for Hamas' heroic October attack against the Jews' illegal occupation of Palestine. Instead of removing these...

Twelve Columbia University students who were suspended over an anti-Israel event on campus last month had their punishments lifted shortly after, their lawyer claimed — as the school continues to weather backlash over its handling of protesters on and near the Morningside Heights campus. About 16 students were initially suspended for failing to provide information about “a host of student activities,” including an “unauthorized” teach-in on the history of Palestinian resistance on March 24, Stanley Cohen told the Village Sun. The university suspected that the March 24 teach-in titled “Resistance 101” spotlighted a member of the Popular Front for the...

On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) said that Jewish students are “going through” the same experience as black students did in Little Rock when they had “to be escorted on campuses because they were afraid for their lives.” Adams said, “I can feel the duality of this moment. As I stated, I understand the pain that is playing out in Israel and in Gaza at this time. I understand what Palestinian New Yorkers are going through, and, in a peaceful way, to display that. I understand what the Israeli[s] experienced on October...

Can anybody name one-square inch on the planet where Communism has done anyone any good? Anywhere? Not for the ruling elites, but for the people themselves? It doesn’t exist. How, then, do they continue to manage to create new recruits? Well, a story out of California last week explains one strategy. Writing for The Free Press for Free People, Francesca Block reports (3/7/24): “An activist group in California has paid nearly 100 public high schoolers $1,400 each to learn how to fight for racial and social justice.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—A Christian who faced persecution for her faith in Communist Romania in the 1980s and barely survived an assassination attempt orchestrated by dictator Nicolae Ceausescu warns that the undermining of parental rights in the U.S. today echoes Ceausescu’s totalitarian government. “It’s the same system that the socialists use in order for parents to be put in jail that the students, kids, will be taught in school to report their [parents] to school,” Virginia Prodan, a human rights lawyer who grew up in Communist Romania but came to the U.S. after President Ronald Reagan secured her release... I was sent a video this week from a presentation at the University of Chicago Medical School— my alma matter—given by the American Medical Association (AMA) president. In it, several students shout down the speaker. Let’s talk about it. To be clear: I am no fan of the AMA. I think many of their policies and lobbying are counterproductive. Second, I am not going to solve the crisis in the middle east in this post. Instead, my interest here is (1) how medical students behave towards a guest speaker (2) the Medical School leadership that fosters this and (3) what...

The U.S. Department of Education has guided colleges to use federal work-study aid to pay students to register voters, work as voting aides, and become poll workers.
