Just wanted to get some feedback from experienced shingle sufferers and those who have opted for the vaccine. For the record, I got the first of a series of two shots a couple of weeks ago. More lingering soreness than with just about any other vaccine. Any reactions or did anyone suffer from shingles anyway?

Feedback on the new shingles vaccine? I usually lie low on medical treatment and don't go for 'the latest' treatment on much of anything. But then, I am healthy. Any feedback about this new vaccine? Side-effects? Avoid it? Go for it? Just collecting data here, thanks.

A very close friend of mine has had a bout of Shingles for several weeks and finally went to the VA Hospital to get help. Shingles is a reactivation of the Chicken Pox that one might have had as a kid. It is the Herpes Zoster virus and it can damage nerves causing severe pain. He is 61 years old and he told me November last year that a visit to the VA for shoulder pain had him diagnosed for tendonitis. Hey Folks, I recently recovered from shingles.Still have a bit of nerve pain. I was very lucky and managed to avoid the worst through early intervention. I just want to encourage anyone out there who's had chicken pox to talk to their doctor about the shingles shot. You don't want to go through what I went through. This especially goes for my fellow "Boomers". Stress is one of the main triggers for shingles and we 50 somethings have a lot of stress. God bless you all and stay healthy.

It seems it is the time of year for this dread menace to appear. 3 older people in my church, me included have had a run in with it this month. Mine was minor, some of theirs were not. Is anyone else having trouble getting the new vaccination against shingles (Zostavax)? I started asking my doctor about it last fall when the CDC recommended it for most adults over age 60. The vaccination is expensive - - $150 to $200, but is good for several years. My pharmacy can get order one dose, but my doctor won't give me a prescription to bring to the pharmacy, where I guess I would pick up the vaccine - keep it frozen - - and then bring it to the doctor's office to get the injection. Hi- Need some help... My brother, Ray, is coming down with a case of shingles. From what I understand, it is pretty much Biblically Job-like, as a disease. Extremely painful. He doesn't have a rash yet, just a stabbing pain in one side of his back, and the skin is so sensitive, it hurts when clothes touch it.
