  • San Diego-Based Group Wins U.S. Suit: Male-Only Draft Unconstitutional

    02/24/2019 8:39:04 AM PST · by chuckee · 28 replies
Even though America hasn’t had a military draft since 1973, men — but not women — are required to register with the Selective Service. A federal judge Friday said that must change — calling U.S. District Judge Gray H. Miller in Houston agreed with the San Diego-based National Coalition for Men and granted its request for summary judgment in a class action suit. “The male-only registration requirement of the Military Selective Service Act, 50 U.S.C. § 3802(a), violates the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution,” says Miller’s “final judgment.” “Women are now allowed in...

Blasey-Ford and all of the people who supported and enable her must face prosecution for the lies they told when she falsely accused Kavanaugh just as Smollett is going to face justice for his lies. Someone has to have the backbone to bring that woman and her supporters to trial.
  • 30 minutes of morning exercise ‘cuts blood pressure’

Just 30 minutes of exercise every morning may be as effective as drugs at lowering blood pressure for the rest of the day, research suggests. A study found that a short burst of exercise – in this case, walking on a treadmill at moderate intensity – had long-lasting effects, and there were further benefits from extra three-minute walks later in the day. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) welcomed the study, saying 30 minutes of exercise every morning was also good for mental health. 55-80 Age of participants Experts examined data for overweight and obese men and women aged 55 to...

    >>>>I've been told that Siegfried Englemann (born 1931) passed away. We lost one of our greats. Anything this man said, you can take it to the bank. I did this email interview two years ago and tried to cover his main interests:<<<<< Siegfried Engelmann is the real thing, an educator who loves to teach children and knows how to do it, both personally and in his books. As far back as the late 1960s, he told the Education Establishment: you’re doing it all wrong. Engelmann takes a scientific approach. He believes you formulate programs, test them, revise them, and keep...

Before today, legal writers were guessing at the statutes the president would use to justify defying the will of Congress and using the military to build his border wall. Now we know. In his declaration, he’s exclusively using 10 U.S.C. 2808 to reallocate up to $3.6 billion from Department of Defense construction projects — more than double the amount that Congress allocated for wall construction in its border compromise. (He intends to use other funds as well for wall construction, but those aren’t applicable to the emergency declaration.)

The planet is like you: There are some things it just can’t take. And one of them is people eating meat. So says Cory “Spartacus” Booker (here and here). Booker dropped some (non)science recently, courtesy of VegNews: While claiming he does not want to lecture Americans on their diets, Booker says Americans need to be nudged into fake cheese because the planet cannot sustain the “environmental impact” of the food industry. “You see the planet earth moving towards what is the Standard American Diet,” Booker said. “We’ve seen this massive increase in consumption of meat produced by the industrial animal...

Left-wing billionaire George Soros, in a rare op-ed, has fired a warning shot to what he describes as the “sleeping pro-European majority” ahead of the European Parliament elections in May -- saying Europe needs to "wake up before it is too late" and before nationalist parties take control.
  • Any experts here on capacitors for PSC or other motors?

I've been all over the Internet and am having trouble finding definitive answers regarding a couple motor capacitors. The first cap (capacitor) is in a PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) motor, and is rated @ 7.5 uF, 370 VAC. Researching this one was a bit of a "journey", and I believe I've answered most of my questions correctly -- I hope! Basically, it appears to me that the specs for a cap in a PSC motor are similar to those in an electric motor that uses a "run" capacitor, since in both cases the cap is in use anytime the motor...

In one sense, the impulse driving these preparations is understandable. The prospect of mass murder in a classroom is intolerable, and good-faith proposals for preventing school shootings should be treated with respect. But the current mode of instead preparing kids for such events is likely to be psychologically damaging. See, for instance, the parting letter a 12-year-old boy wrote his parents during a lockdown at a school in Charlotte, North Carolina, following what turned out to be a bogus threat: “I am so sorry for anything I have done, the trouble I have caused,” he scribbled. “Right now I’m scared...
  • Why don't we build homes using interlocking cement blocks?

No need for software if you can learn from nature, at least that's what my ancestors did. Take the ancient Temple of Borobudur for example. Borobudur - Wikipedia If this colossal structure were to be build today the amount of computation and simulation required to complete it would be very great. But because there were no computers in the 9th century what my ancestors did to complete this beautiful edifice was quite interesting in it self. The learn from observation and harnessing everything that nature has given them in order to complete this temple. Borobudur is located on the South...

Making of: The Super Massive ships of Fracture Space In 2014 I provided Edge Case Games with concepts for Fractured Space. At the time, the game was in a pre-beta stage – gameplay was locked down, but the team needed spaceship designs that felt genuinely manufactured and massive. I was brought in to create convincing, engineered mega-ships for two of the game’s factions – United Space Research (USR), and Zarek Industries – fictional, militarized versions of NASA and Maersk, respectively.opposing factions, opposing values Several in-depth conversations with Dan Lodge, the project’s Art Director, revealed that the conventional concept art route...

Roger Stone has long feared he would be slapped with a gag order if he got indicted — and he’s readied a plan to make sure he won’t have to stay silent. The federal judge in Stone’s case, Amy Berman Jackson, has already hushed a coterie of others caught in special counsel Robert Mueller’s dragnet, including Paul Manafort, Rick Gates and their attorneys. They were quieted after one of the lawyers told reporters that Mueller’s case was “ridiculous.” Jackson will have a much longer record of public commentary from Stone to work with when the longtime Donald Trump associate appears...

The rest is gold stitches.

Are there any other Marines asking the same questions about his DD-214 info? Thanks to Don Shipley for using the FOIA to get this info from Nathan Phillips DD-214, but I still have questions. What status was he between the end of 73 in Lincoln and 75 at El Toro? When he changed from USMCR to USMC (3rd MAW is regular Marine Corps, not Reserve)? Why does he NOT have the National Defense Service Medal if he was a Vietnam "ERA" Veteran? PFC is usually awarded after 6 months. Was he always a Private or did he get promoted and...

Unknown to most Americans, a vast set of laws gives the president greatly enhanced powers during emergencies. President Donald Trump’s threats to bypass Congress and secure funding for a wall along the border with Mexico by declaring a national emergency are not just posturing. The Brennan Center, building on previous research, has identified 123 statutory powers that may become available to the president when de declares a national emergency, including two that might offer some legal cover for his wall-building ambitions (10 U.S.C. 2808 (a) and 33 U.S.C. 2293 on our list below). An additional 13 statutory powers become available...

Nobody, in 1900, speculating on the future of government, could have imagined the astonishing growth and scope of government in the 20th century. Nor would they have imagined that, for many people, this gigantic government would seem the very essence of efficiency, compassion, and modernity. But the reason that government has got so big is not, as many claim, the weight of armaments and wars. Instead the money goes for health care, education, pensions, and welfare programs. You can see how it all happened in the United States in the charts below.
