Like Dogs to Vomit, Media Matters Cleans Up Liberal Media Messes Just like dogs that merrily slurp vomit to the last chunk, bloggers at the Democratic party front group Media Matters for America follow behind liberal media outlets, lapping up their latest noxious dousing of conservatives. Then with a satisfied smirk, Media Matters gloats "what vomit?" when conservatives complain about being puked on by the press. The latest example of Media Matters' vomit fetish is their defense of the attempted smear of Sarah Palin during her humanitarian trip to Haiti last weekend by the Associated Press and others as a hair-obsessed...
  • Damaged LGBT Books in Lamont Not Result of Hate Crime, Dean Says (barf alert)

After conducting an investigation in response to a recent police report that 36 books treating LGBT topics had been damaged with what appeared to be urine in Lamont Library last month, the University determined Monday morning that the incident was an accident and will no longer be treated as a hate crime, according to a statement sent from College Dean Evelynn M. Hammonds to the Harvard community on Monday. On November 24, library staff at Lamont discovered the damaged books—on subjects including lesbian and gay issues and same-sex marriage—along with a bottle assumed to have contained what investigators believed to...
  • LGBT Books Vandalized With Urine in Lamont Library

Approximately 40 books dealing with LGBT issues were vandalized with what appeared to be urine in Lamont Library on November 24, according to a report filed Friday by the library security staff to the Harvard University Police Department. HUPD spokesman Steven G. Catalano wrote in an e-mail that the vandalized books' subject matters included lesbian and gay issues and same-sex marriage. Due to the nature of books, HUPD is currently investigating the incident as a bias crime.

A new poll released by Gallup shows that American distrust in the mass media has reached a record high. This is the fourth straight year that a majority of respondents have said that they have little or no trust in the media, but the 57% who say that this year is a new record for the poll. According to the poll, 48% of respondents say the media is too liberal, 15% say it is too conservative and 33% say it is “just right.” You can see how the responses have changed over the years here: (snip to picture of chart)...

The Washington Post, among other mainstream media outlets, relentlessly stokes claims that Tea Partiers are racist. Eugene Robinson accuses almost everyone who opposes the Obama agenda — but particularly those active in the Tea Party movement — of being motivated by racism and prone to violence. Jonathan Capehart, another WaPo columnist, does the same. So low and behold, the WaPo news writers, citing a WaPo poll, announce that Tea party groups battling perceptions of racism (emphasis mine): As several states with active “tea party” groups prepare to hold important primary elections this month, the movement is struggling to overcome accusations...

Bill Brady, the Republican candidate for governor of Illinois, paid no federal income tax in 2009. In recent weeks, I've written a couple of columns about reports that nearly half the people in the United States will not pay federal income tax for 2009. In part, that's the result of new tax credits aimed at stimulating the economy. Still, as someone who paid the tax, it bothers me that some people don't. Especially people wealthier than I am. When that wealthier person happens to be a political candidate complaining about high taxes, well, it seems sort of wrong. Brady reported...

HDNet's Dan Rather, in a piece for the Huffington Post, apologized for his use of the word "watermelons" during a segment about Barack Obama's ability to pass health care, that was aired on the March 8 Chris Matthews Show. In his explanation Rather offers his Texas background as an excuse saying, "I used the analogy of selling watermelons by the side of the road. It's an expression that stretches to my boyhood roots in Southeast Texas" but then goes on to plead "I'm sorry people took offense." The following is the most relevant portion of the statement, from the...

Limbaugh Vows to Leave US Over Health Care (March 9) -- Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has thrown down the gauntlet. If the U.S. Congress passes health care reform, Limbaugh will leave the country to receive his medical treatment. Specifically, Limbaugh told a caller that he envisions traveling to Costa Rica should the government, through a federal program costing upwards of $1 trillion, expand health care coverage to approximately 30 million Americans who are currently uninsured. Costa Rica, as it happens, offers universal heath care to all of its residents. Limbaugh's guarantee is but the latest variation of what...

Dan Rather: 'Articulate' Obama Couldn't Even 'Sell Watermelons' By Geoffrey Dickens Created 03/08/2010 - 14:41 HDNet's Dan Rather stepped on one mine after another in the racial minefield that exists when talking about the nation's first black President as the former CBS anchor, on the syndicated Chris Matthews Show on March 8th, uttered the following take on the President's ability to get health care passed and how the GOP and independents would view it. DAN RATHER: Part of the undertow in the coming election is going to be President Obama's leadership. And the Republicans will make a case and a...

New York's top court Tuesday rejected Dan Rather's bid to reinstate his $70 million breach-of-contract lawsuit against CBS Corp. Rather's motion was denied without comment Tuesday by the Court of Appeals. CBS spokeswoman Shannon Jacobs said the network was pleased with the outcome. Rather, who now produces an hourlong news program for cable channel HDNet, issued a statement calling the ruling "a grave miscarriage of justice."

Uninsured patients with traumatic injuries, such as car crashes, falls and gunshot wounds, were almost twice as likely to die in the hospital as similarly injured patients with health insurance, according to a troubling new study. The findings by Harvard University researchers surprised doctors and health experts who have believed emergency room care was equitable. "This is another drop in a sea of evidence that the uninsured fare much worse in their health in the United States," said senior author Dr. Atul Gawande, a Harvard surgeon and medical journalist. The study, appearing in the November issue of Archives of Surgery,...
  • MSNBC Admits: ‘Unable to Verify’ False Limbaugh Quote; No Retraction or Apology

During the 3:00PM ET hour of live coverage on MSNBC Friday, co-host David Shuster admitted that racially charged quotes he and other hosts attributed to Rush Limbaugh had not been verified: “MSNBC attributed that quote to a football player who was opposed to Limbaugh’s NFL bid. However, we have been unable to verify that quote independently. So, just to clarify.” Shuster did not formally retract the quote or apologize.

MSNBC contributor Touré on Wednesday continued the network's vitriolic, slanderous attacks on Rush Limbaugh. Discussing the radio host’s bid to buy the St. Louis Rams, the cable commentator smeared, "Several NFL players have already said they would not play for Rush because they know he would love to say he owns a plantation full of black men." [Audio available here.] When Morning Meeting host Dylan Ratigan mock protested, "No, they don't know that," the one-named Touré reiterated, "They feel it." Ratigan gave in and played along, "Okay, they feel that." Despite calls from the Media Research Center, MSNBC has repeatedly...

Limbaugh is going to change the name of the team from the Rams to the Nappy-Headed Hos..Rush Limbaugh might one day own the St. Louis Rams. Hell, sometimes these column thingies write themselves. The only thing that could make this news even more fantastic is if in his first two acts as owner Limbaugh traded for Donovan McNabb and made Jesse Jackson the head coach. Followed by Ann Coulter's hiring as general manager. My head exploded after hearing this Limbaugh news. How exactly will Limbaugh address the team after he purchases them? "I just want to introduce myself and say...

Media Bias: Veteran reporter, author and commentator Bernard Goldberg reports that when CBS News did its fake National Guard story on George W. Bush avoiding service in Vietnam, it knew it was a lie. It's a liberal urban legend that Bush used the influence of his father and his father's friends to land a cushy position in the Texas National Guard to avoid service in Vietnam. The Democrats would run John Kerry as a hero in the war, and CBS News was all too eager to help with Mary Mapes producing a "60 Minutes II" segment in September 2004 charging exactly...

In 2007, Rather filed his $70 million lawsuit against his old company saying he wasn’t allowed to defend his story because the top management of CBS’ parent company, Viacom, wanted to appease the Bush Administration and protect its business interests. Until now, the controversy over the Rather/Mapes story has centered almost entirely on one issue: the legitimacy of the documents – a very important issue, indeed. But it turns out that there was another very important issue, one that goes to the very heart of what the story was about – and one that has gone virtually unnoticed. This is...

Here's a story I talked about while recording a guest host spot on Raisin' Hale (for my good friend Tabitha Hale) on RFCRadio.com last night. Michelle Malkin explores it today with some bonus material. The free press in the United States once stood for something. The Constitution ensured its freedom so it could act as a vigilant watchdog for the citizens of this country. The classic modern example is Watergate, of course. An unhinged, dishonest president thoroughly abused his position and would have gotten away with it had it not been for the efforts of two newspaper reporters. That's the...

SAO PAULO, Brazil — In one murder after another, the "Canal Livre" crime TV show had an uncanny knack for being first on the scene, gathering graphic footage of the victim. Too uncanny, say police, who are investigating the show's host, state legislator Wallace Souza, on suspicion of commissioning at least five of the murders to boost his ratings and prove his claim that Brazil's Amazon region is awash in violent crime. Police also have accused Souza of drug trafficking. "The order to execute always came from the legislator and his son, who then alerted the TV crews to get...
