Nike appeared to have pulled Washington Redskins merchandise off its website Thursday night hours after team sponsor FedEx publicly called on the franchise to change its name. Searches on Nike’s website for the team's apparel yielded no results. The Washington Redskins name was also scrubbed from a menu listing all 31 other NFL teams on Nike’s online marketplace. Nike did not immediately return a request for comment Thursday.

New York (AFP) – Sports giant Nike reported a surprise loss Thursday as shutdowns due to COVID-19 prompted a big drop in revenues in spite of higher online sales. Nike reported a loss of $790 million in the quarter ending May 31, which translated to a loss of 51 cents per share compared with analyst expectations for nine cents per share in profit. The Washington Redskins have decided to remove all references of original owner George Preston Marshall, who founded the team in 1933 and owned it until his death in 1969. According to the Washington Post, the Redskins plan to erase Marshall's name from franchise history by removing his name from all official team material. This means Marshall will no longer be mentioned anywhere in their Ring of Fame, on their History Wall, or on the team's official website.

The San Francisco 49ers are doing all they can to embrace the Black Lives Matter movement and elevate its status to new heights. Specifically, on Monday, they elevated the Black Lives Matter flag to the top of Levi’s Stadium right next to the California and American flags.

Brett Favre on Monday backtracked his remarks equating Colin Kaepernick with Pat Tillman, the former Arizona Cardinals safety who left his career to join the Army after 9/11. The Hall of Fame quarterback said his comments during an interview with TMZ Sports was not meant to compare Kaepernick and Tillman, “but a recognition that they both sidelined their football dreams in pursuit of a cause.”

After a picture of Mike Gundy wearing a One America News shirt circulated and drew backlash from members of the Oklahoma State football team, the Cowboys head coach apologized to current players, former players and players' families Tuesday. Gundy said of a meeting with the team: "They helped me see through their eyes how the T-shirt affected their hearts. Once I learned how that network felt about Black Lives Matter, I was disgusted and knew it was completely unacceptable to me." He also said the meetings with his team have been "eye-opening."

Houston Texans head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien says he'll take a knee during the national anthem next season with his players to protest racial inequality and police brutality. "Yeah, I'll take a knee -- I'm all for it," O'Brien told the Houston Chronicle. "The players have a right to protest, a right to be heard and a right to be who they are. They're not taking a knee because they're against our flag. They're taking a knee because they haven't been treated equally in this country for over 400 years."

The NFL is committing $250 million over 10 years to social justice initiatives, targeting what it calls “systemic racism” and supporting “the battle against the ongoing and historic injustices faced by African Americans.” The league, which has raised $44 million in donations through its Inspire Change program, announced the additional $206 million commitment Thursday. It plans to “work collaboratively with NFL players to support programs to address criminal justice reform, police reforms, and economic and educational advancement.”
