My fellow FReepers, from Colorado or elsewhere: Yesterday, I received an e-mail from Representative Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) who, as you know, wrote the Federal Marriage Amendment now in debate. As you may also know, she stood up and talked back to her detractors at a Protect Marriage Rally in Denver, prompting a huge backlash from the gay community. They are determined to defeat Hon. Musgrave at all costs, replacing her with a RINO or a Dimocrat (which is, she tells me, what happened last time someone proposed a marriage amendment). <p>John Kerry mentions his service in Vietnam so frequently that it has become a running joke on the campaign press plane. He seldom if ever mentions his postwar activities as a national coordinator and principal spokesman for Vietnam Veterans Against the War, a group he says he quit in 1971 because he was concerned about its radical agenda. One reason may be that a credibility gap has started to widen over his antiwar history, and he clearly doesn't want to discuss it at length. His campaign is issuing misleading and evasive statements on his antiwar service in a way that would do the Pentagon spinners of the Johnson and Nixon administrations proud.</p>

President Bush yesterday announced his support of a constitutional amendment to protect the sanctity of marriage by defining it has the union of one man and one woman. Apparently, the Washington Times and the Chicago Tribune are two of the few newspapers to get the memo, as reflected in their headlines on this major story -- the Times topped with "Bush Urges Amendment on Marriage; Pushes Passage to Protect Institution" and the Tribune had "Bush: Protect Marriage." <p>A new poll in the 4th Congressional District race shows Republican Marilyn Musgrave winning support from one in five Democrats and extending her overall lead with an 18-percentage-point margin over Democrat Stan Matsunaka. Of the 400 likely voters surveyed in the Ciruli Associates poll, 48 percent favored Musgrave and 31 percent favored Matsunaka. Libertarian candidate John Volz claimed 1 percent, with undecided voters making up 13 percent. The remaining 7 percent of survey respondents are listed as "other," meaning they selected a candidate not on the ballot.</p>
