Humans have been living in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula since at least the Late Pleistocene (126,000-11,700 years ago). Much of what we know about these earliest settlers of Mexico comes from nine well-preserved human skeletons found in the submerged caves and sinkholes near Tulum in Quintana Roo, Mexico. The analysis showed Chan Hol 3 was likely a woman, approximately 30 years old at her time of death, and lived at least 9,900 years ago. Her skull falls into a mesocephalic pattern (neither especially broad or narrow, with broad cheekbones and a flat forehead), like the three other skulls from the Tulum...

The massacre happened in Uruapan, in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, on Monday, according to the state’s attorney general’s office. Four people walked into the amusement arcade, asked questions of some patrons and began firing with military-grade weapons, the attorney general’s office said in a statement. The attackers were apparently searching for specific targets, but then opened fire indiscriminately on customers, the Associated Press reported.

Uber has temporarily suspended 240 accounts in Mexico after the customers traveled with two drivers who are suspected to have come into contact with a coronavirus sufferer. The driver's had taken the individual, who had not been diagnosed at the time, on trips around Mexico City before picking up other customers. The ride-hailing app suspended all accounts involved to stop the novel virus being transferred to others using its taxi service. As many as 20,671 cases of coronavirus have been reported worldwide alongside 426 deaths from the virus. There are no reported cases in Mexico.

McALLEN, Texas — As Washington, D.C., was navigating impeachment drama on a recent Tuesday, giant diggers along the Rio Grande were moving around mountains of dirt, continuing to add new sections to a wall along the southern border.Several of us stood watching in the gusty south Texas wind as the cement was poured and looming steel bollards were snapped into place. The new construction was creeping slowly toward its older counterpart, the section of wall built following the passage of the Secure Fence Act in 2006.Influx Affects American Landowners Near the Border As I chatted with the Border Patrol agents...

i am searching for a western film that i vaguely recall watching in the early 1960s. two men (and a woman?) find themselves alone and stranded, without supplies or transportation, in the mexican desert in the late 19th century. they walk and come across a railroad track. they follow the line and find an overturned two man handcar. they get the handcar back on the railroad track. then they operate the handcar until they get to a big city (vera cruz?). there is a gunfight of some sort, and they win the gun fight. iirc, the movie has two famous...
  • Trump: I Don’t Think I Can Work With Democrats After Impeachment

More to the point, Donald Trump doesn’t think Democrats can work with him either. In his Super Bowl interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump complained bitterly about the “damage” done to his family and the country in the impeachment and trial. “I’d like to” work with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, Trump told Hannity, but they’re so dishonest and obsessed with winning that he doesn’t think it’s possible. That sounds like exactly what Pelosi and Schumer would say, too: HANNITY: Two hundred and seventy days from now, I guess the ultimate jury –the American people — go to...

President Trump wasn’t called a racist until he ran against Hillary. That’s how liberals operate. Play the race card every time. They’ve done it for decades. Fortunately, minorities aren’t falling for it as much as they used to. The black people no longer think they are victims – but free men – to do and achieve as they can. Just like all should be able to do. In November, two polls found that President Trump’s approval rating among black likely voters had reached 34%. An Emerson poll found that Trump has a 34.5% approval rating among black likely voters and...

A shootout at a border wall construction site near San Diego that wounded two Mexican security guards last summer is now under FBI investigation, according to private contractors and government documents obtained by The Washington Post. The incident, which has not been publicly disclosed, occurred on the night of July 1 east of the San Ysidro border crossing, when Mexican security guards came under fire while protecting materials and equipment for Texas-based Ultimate Concrete, according to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers report. One of the guards was shot in the lower right buttock, and another suffered a light...

The nation’s most prominent elected Democrat said Friday her party must resist the temptation to chase progressive dreams, such as Medicare for All, if it wants to win the 2020 elections. The key to victory, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, is policies that appeal to the political mainstream. “I just say to all of our friends, you know, you want to go to the left? You want to win the election, let’s make a decision to win the election. And when you make a decision to win the election, you have to make every decision in favor of winning,” Pelosi...

Tariffs were once a mainstay in U.S. trade policy. Constituting the main source of federal revenue from 1790-1914, and at one point providing over 90% of government income, they were a pivotal component of U.S. fiscal and foreign policy. Their main motivation in those times: protect U.S. industry from foreign opposition. It wasn’t until colossal industrial growth coupled with the introduction of the income tax rendered them less critical to the government balance sheet, and their use declined. Post-World War II, tariffs took on the negative connotation you see today. The West largely eschewed them in favor of free trade...

We haven’t been seeing nearly as many migrant caravan stories in the news this winter as compared to the same time one year ago. And there’s a reason for that. It’s because there haven’t been as many migrant caravans, and the ones that did manage to form up haven’t made it very far past Mexico’s southern border. When asked to comment on this trend yesterday, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) predicted that there would almost certainly be more caravans, but he sees them growing smaller and less frequent. (Associated Press) President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Friday that...

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney is not keen on President Trump’s attacks on impeachment witnesses, but conceded that the insults are working. “He has made a career of trashing people by tweet,” Romney, 72, told the New York Times. “It is part of his shtick and it’s working for him,” the Utah senator said of Trump’s attacks on his former national security adviser John Bolton. “I think it’s unfortunate.”

Today, the Bureau of Economic Analysis released its advance estimate for United States GDP for the fourth quarter of 2019 and the entire calendar year of 2019. The release estimates that real GDP grew 2.1 percent at an annual rate in the fourth quarter of 2019 and 2.3 percent over the four quarters of 2019. Consumer spending and residential investment posted notable gains, propelling GDP growth and setting the stage for future economic expansion. These results show that the economy remains resilient despite a slowdown across the rest of the world and the continuation of the longest expansion in American...

This is a perilous time for a fair and passionate judge to leave the bench. By doing so, they risk having Donald Trump appoint their replacement, and considering Trump’s policies and beliefs, that new appointee is pretty likely to have a harsh anti-immigration stance. But dozens of immigration judges have reported that despite their efforts to stick out the presidency, they’ve just reached their breaking points. The Los Angeles Times spoke with dozens of judges who are quitting or taking early retirement because they simply cannot stomach having to enforce Trump administration policies on immigrants. Immigration Judge Charles Honeyman served...

U.S. authorities on Wednesday announced the discovery of the longest smuggling tunnel ever found on the Southwest border, stretching more than three-quarters of a mile from Tijuana, Mexico, into the San Diego area. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the tunnel originates in an industrial area in Mexico and extends a total of 4,309 feet (1,313 meters). It features an extensive rail/cart system, forced air ventilation, high-voltage electrical cables and panels, an elevator at the tunnel entrance, and a complex drainage system, the agency said. “While subterranean tunnels are not a new occurrence along the California-Mexico border, the sophistication and...

Texas Republican congressional candidate Pierce Bush, 33, said Wednesday that he believes President Trump deserves to be re-elected. Appearing on "Fox & Friends" with host Steve Doocy, Bush -- who is a grandson of the late President George H.W. Bush -- said that upon examination of the president's results during his first term in office, they're "hard to argue with." He cited record-low unemployment numbers and the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) Trade Deal. "He is a strong fighter for our nation's national security," said Bush. "You know, the most important job a president has is keeping our country safe and...

President Trump has done it again. He just keeps winning. He just keeps proving “the Trump Doctrine” works magnificently. Don’t look now, but Trump has even built his wall- and Mexico is paying for it. More on the new “Trump Wall” in a minute. But first, I want to explain how and why Trump is winning like no president in history. Even UFC legend Connor McGregor just called President Trump “the G.O.A.T.”- as in “the greatest of all time.” It’s all because of the “Trump Doctrine.” This doctrine is a mixture of Trump’s unique business acumen and negotiating skills. No...

On Monday, radio and TV host Mark Levin issued a barrage of tweets regarding The New York Times article with excerpts from former national security advisor John Bolton’s new book, excerpts which prompted much hand-wringing among some GOP senators about calling new witnesses in the Senate impeachment trail targeting President Trump. Levin stomped on the Times, Bolton, and the GOP senators who seem to be considering capitulating to Democrats’ demands that witnesses be called who did not testify in the House impeachment trial. Levin began by cutting directly to the heart of the matter: If every word of this New...
