A Minnesota mayor earning $130,000+ per year at his post thanked Joe Biden for canceling his student loan debt. St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter publicly celebrated hardworking Americans being forced to pay off his student loans even though he earns way more money than the average American worker.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter recently committed to supporting a slavery reparations program in the city of St. Paul. Carter is part of a coalition launched last week of 11 mayors across the U.S. The Mayors Organized for Reparations and Equity (MORE) coalition, led by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, was formed with the mission of starting pilot reparations programs that would be led by local committees of black leaders. The mayors in MORE held a virtual press conference last week to announce the group’s inception and mission.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS obtained a string of emails between St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter and St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell that shows the mayor opposes the purchase and use of ShotSpotter technology. In the emails, Axtell uses multiple examples of cities that use and benefit from ShotSpotter computer software, but Carter responded to those emails with evidence of his own suggesting the technology has not worked to reduce gun violence on some of the cities which use it. In one exchange, Carter said to Axtell, "I appreciate your desperation to identify every tool to reduce and eliminate gun violence...
