When the Bible says that mankind was created “in the image of God” we gain from that an understanding of our capabilities. We also learn about the inherent worth of human life. What is a person worth? Ninety-nine percent of a human body consists of six elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. The remaining one percent consists of minor elements and trace elements. If you purchased these chemicals on the market, you would have to spend a bit more than $100. Most of us believe people are worth more than $100. Yet not everyone. The Nazis considered Jews,...

Dostoevsky once said, "If God didn't exist, everything is possible." There is wisdom in his observation since, without God, there would be nothing to serve as the ultimate reference for human acts. The eternal law that God established in the universe is inscribed on the human heart. Thus, everyone at all times and places knows right and wrong. Take away God, and all will fall into the most barbaric savagery. Modern secular society officially denies that God exists. Thus, society comes to accept the cruelest practices by breaking down the natural repugnance that comes from transgressing God’s law. Abortion and...

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A knife-wielding suspect allegedly chased a man after he inappropriately touched his girlfriend at Garrison Park, court documents said. Officers responded to the park located at 6001 Manchaca Road right next to Crockett High School in south Austin last Tuesday after a caller said a man with a knife was chasing his friend. When officers arrived, the victim told them he got a text from his girlfriend that said a strange guy touched her inappropriately while at the park. He went to the park immediately and confronted who police identified as 53-year-old Robert Lopez. At first, the...

Following the announcement of casting actor Esai Morales as Deathstroke, DC Universe's live-action Titans has cast Chella Man as Jericho, a hero in his own right and the son of DC's famed mercenary. Though he's not a big name in Hollywood, Man, who self-identifies as deaf, genderqueer and a queer artist, has seen his profile grow both as a deaf activist and as a model. In 2017, the Jewish/Chinese-American actor began to transition from female to male and has quickly become a noted figure in LGBTQ+ circles, documenting his transition on Instagram, YouTube and a series of columns for them....

The European Union agreed on Tuesday to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) from new trucks and buses by 30 percent by a 2030 deadline as part of its commitment to cut its output of greenhouse gases. […] The EU currently has no limits on emissions from heavy-duty vehicles, unlike the United States, China, Japan and Canada. Trucks account for almost one quarter of the bloc’s transport-related emissions. […] Curbs on the transport sector, the only one in which emissions are still rising, aim to help the bloc meet its overall goal of reducing greenhouse gases by at least 40...

A silver medieval ring thought to be up to 600 years old has been unearthed by a man who took up metal detecting after watching a TV sitcom. The gold-gilded ring was found by Gordon Graham in a field in the north of the Isle of Man. Archaeologists believe the piece, which is engraved with geometric shapes, dates from between 1400 and 1500 AD. An inquest hearing at Douglas Courthouse declared the ring can be officially classed as treasure. Allison Fox, a curator of archaeology at Manx National Heritage, said it may date back to the time when the first...

During the construction of London's massive "super sewer," archaeologists discovered something unusual in the mud: a 500-year-old skeleton of a man still wearing his thigh-high leather boots. The Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) announced this week that the skeleton was unearthed on the shores of the Thames, near a bend in the river downstream from the Tower of London. "By studying the boots, we've been able to gain a fascinating glimpse into the daily life of a man who lived as many as 500 years ago," said Beth Richardson, a finds specialist who analyzes artifacts at MOLA Headland, a consortium...

There are often things that inspire us. This is most especially true when you are young and looking for direction. In my case, I was greatly influenced by the books that I read. My favorites were short-length science fiction “pulps”. These were often paperback books that I could shove in the rear pocket of my bluejeans. I would read them, and often reread them. The authors of these stories varied, but my favorites included Ray Bradbury and Robert Heinlein. Here is one such story. This story illustrates that sometimes, it take one person to take a necessary action. Often that...

Brett Kavanaugh on Monday said he will "not be intimidated into withdrawing" from his Supreme Court nomination after a second woman came forward with a sexual misconduct allegation against him. Kavanaugh sent a letter on Monday to Sens. Chuck Grassley(R-Iowa) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) — the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, respectively — saying the accusations against him are "smears, pure and simple." "They debase our public discourse. But they are also a threat to any man or woman who wishes to serve our country. Such grotesque and obvious character assassination—if allowed to succeed—will dissuade competent...
  • Flowerboys and the appeal of 'soft masculinity' in South Korea

A man wearing make-up on the street may elicit unwelcome glares, questions about his masculinity and even his sexuality. But in South Korea, ideas about how to look good as a man are changing attitudes and influencing the world, as the BBC's Saira Asher reports. When the BBC posted a video about the make-up routine of a 16-year-old YouTuber in Seoul on Facebook, the reactions ranged from intrigued to downright vitriolic. Some assumed this meant he was gay, while others admonished him for his choice saying "real men don't wear make-up". There were, of course, those that argued for his...

In preparation for that glorious day in October when the Conciliar Lifetime Achievement Award for Service to the Revolution will be bestowed upon Pope Paul the Pathetic, the Vatican PR machine recently spit out a puff piece extolling his… ahem… heroic virtues. The Roman spin masters are obviously attempting to gin up excitement for the event among the undernourished masses, but in so doing they inadvertently managed to provide the faithful (those with a handful of Catholic brain cells left, that is) with precisely the reason why Montini is deserving of nothing short of the severest condemnation. The headline to the...

Wednesday, June 20, 2018 04:57PM DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 911 call released Wednesday gives more insight into the moments before three people were pulled from a pool at a Durham apartment complex earlier this week. The three people -- 15-year-old Abril Yuliana Flores-Ojeda, 16-year-old Brian Manuel Benites, and 21-year-old Luis Enrique Delgado-Romero -- all died at the hospital. In the call, the caller told dispatchers that a man, who appeared to be in his 20s, had knocked on the door of the apartment where he was staying and said his friend was drowning at the pool. The friend tried...

A man who held a 39-year-old man at gunpoint in New Orleans and told him to drive to a location was arrested after the driver bailed out the vehicle in front of a Westwego police officer, according to court records. On Wednesday (May 16) around 3 p.m., Elvis Jackson, 31, met the 39-year-old in the parking lot of a Walmart at 4301 Chef Menteur Highway, police said. Once inside the vehicle, Jackson allegedly pulled out a gun, stole $100 from the driver and instructed him to drive to the home of a man named "Bo." The driver began to drive...
