On Thursday's Velshi and Ruhle show, MSNBC hosts Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle continued their anti-gun crusade with Velshi at one point taking almost three minutes to rattle off a list of studies alleging that gun ownership makes people more likely to die earlier. In one case, he made a claim that is easily debunked as he implied that the U.S. has the world's highest suicide rate, blaming it on guns, when, in fact, a number of other countries with more restrictive gun laws have higher suicide rates than the U.S.

On Monday, Merck CEO Ken Frazier, announced he was leaving The American Manufacturing Council. Referring to the horrible events in Charlottesville where a 20-year-old who suffers from schizophrenia and -- according to his high school teacher -- became obsessed with German military history and Nazism, drove through a crowd of protesters killing one and injuring 19, stated: "America's leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal." What a strange non sequitur. It is obvious that Mr. Frazier's intent was...

Wilber Zarate filed a lawsuit against the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals for taking his 9-year-old daughter’s dog from their mobile park home and then putting the pooch down ahead of the state’s mandatory five-day grace period.... In the suit, Zarate claimed PETA works under a board policy of euthanizing animals because it “considers pet ownership to be a form of involuntary bondage.”

Between 30,000 and 40,000 farm-raised minks were released into the wild near Eden Valley, Minnesota, earlier this week when burglars—presumably animal rights activists—cut the fence to a mink-pelt farm and opened the cages holding the mammals, letting them run into the wild. Minks are strange little creatures somewhere between otters and ferrets, and when they run, their front halves and back halves teeter independently like two people pretending to be one horse. While the idea of tens of thousands of minks flopping through a pasture is quite amusing, the minks’ liberation likely came at a price: Farm-raised minks aren’t really...

We’ve often heard the familiar refrain after an Islamic terror attack – terrorism is a “perversion” of Islam, and Muslims who commit acts of terror are not truly following the faith. However, the man who infiltrated the Council on American-Islamic Relations for six months begs to differ. “We have to accept reality, Sean, and reality is that all these jihadi groups all over the planet tell us why they are fighting,” Chris Gaubatz told Sean Hannity during an appearance on the latter’s radio show. “It’s interesting to me that all these groups, whether it’s Islamic State, al-Qaida, the Taliban, Boko...

David Miller and Hannah Witheridge were brutally bludgeoned to death with a wooden hoe while walking along the beach at nightThe family of a murdered British backpacker are hoping authorities will "show leniency" when sentencing them for their horrific crimes. Despite losing their son David Miller, 24, who was killed alongside Hannah Witheridge, 23, the family are hoping the killers will receive a long jail sentence to reflect on their crimes as opposed to the death sentence. The young backpackers were killed in a savage attack in September 2014 while walking back to their hotel along a beach in Koh...

The state of Arkansas plans to put to death eight inmates over a span of 10 days next month, a pace of executions unequaled in recent American history and brought about by a looming expiration date for a drug used by the state for lethal injections. The eight men facing execution — four black and four white — are among 34 death row inmates in Arkansas, where capital punishment has been suspended since 2005 over legal challenges and difficulty in acquiring the drugs for lethal injections. All eight men were convicted of murders that occurred between 1989 and 1999, and...

Sentencing reform, a euphemism that the pro-crime lobby uses to mean going soft on criminals, is championed by the left and by some elements on the right. This Washington Post story shows the terrible effects of sentencing reform on the victims of criminals freed to rape and kill. Hundreds of criminals sentenced by D.C. judges under an obscure local law crafted to give second chances to young adult offenders have gone on to rob, rape or kill residents of the nation’s capital. The original intent of the law was to rehabilitate inexperienced criminals under the age of 22. The District’s Youth...

On February 4, Chicago Police Department officers discovered five adults and one child stabbed to death in a home in Chicago's Gage Park. Police found the bodies around 1:05 PM Thursday. According to the Chicago Tribune, the CPD sent officers to investigate after someone called police to say a "co-worker had not shown up for work Wednesday or Thursday." When officers arrived to check on the missing co-worker, they looked through a window and saw "what they believed to be a body" inside the house. Upon entering the house, they found five adults and "a child 11 or 12 years...

There are merely degrees of piety, measures of fervor between moderate Muslims and more enthusiastic Muslims. The ideology is the same. The level of adherence is the distinguishing factor. On Friday I reported here at Atlas that a young Muslim in Pennsylvania had been arrested for supporting the Islamic State (ISIS), operating no less than 57 Twitter accounts to recruit and propagandize for the group. Now Daniel Greenfield reveals a salient detail that was left out of the mainstream media coverage: “Muslim in Pennsylvania Busted Seeking to Buy Yazidi Slave Girls,†by Daniel Greenfield, FrontPage, December 19, 2015: Slavery isn’t...

(This conversation has been edited and condensed.) *** There have been some high-profile lies this election season. The most recent that comes to mind is the story about the thousands of Muslims that were supposedly having tailgate-style parties celebrating after 9/11. In the book, you say, essentially, we’re OK with lies. Can you walk me through why we’re built not only for being deceptive, but also tolerating deception? Trump’s supporters don’t particularly care whether he’s lying or not. Our brain doesn’t really care—I know that’s appalling. Our default position is we simply want to be right. This is why our...

The two largest social networks, Facebook and Twitter, and the world's largest search engine, Google, have teamed up with German law enforcement to delete “hate speech†within 24 hours in what is being seen as a last-ditch effort to silence public dissent about a gigantic wave of Syrian immigration. The partnership to crack down on what Germany deems illegal speech comes after German law enforcement's reported concerns about “racist abuse†posted to social media after the country's huge and extremely controversial import of over a million Syrian refugees. Justice Minister Heiko Maas is reported to have warned social networks that...

President Barack Obama says his administration will continue releasing terrorists from the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, so long as those released are less dangerous than the jihadists currently fighting against the U.S. and its interests. The bizarre argument comes in a new interview with Olivier Knox of Yahoo! News and is one of several comments in their discussion that reinforces the president's stubborn nonchalance on issues related to jihad. Obama also shrugs off concerns about recidivism of former Guantanamo detainees, suggesting that only a "handful" of former detainees have returned to the fight and claiming that only "low-level"...

A majority of Americans have a negative view of Islam after the terrorist attacks in Paris and California, including a majority of Democrats. Fifty-eight percent of Americans now have an unfavorable opinion of Islam, according to the latest YouGov/Huffpost poll of Americans. That number includes 45 percent of Democrats, 58 percent of Independents and 75 percent of Republicans. Only 27 percent of Democrats have a favorable opinion of Islam while 45 percent, nearly twice as many have an unfavorable view. Only 11 percent of Republicans and 15 percent of Independents have a favorable view of the religion. Only 23 percent...

Donald Trump's proposal to ban all Muslim immigration into the US, including that of tourists, was met with an immediate and massive backlash from across the political spectrum. Republican presidential candidates moved quickly to condemn their party's frontrunner, with Jeb Bush describing Trump as "unhinged" and Lindsey Graham calling on everyone seeking the presidency to denounce the plan. "Donald Trump today took xenophobia and religious bigotry to a new level," Graham told the Guardian in an interview shortly after Trump unveiled his proposal. "His comments are hurting the war effort and putting our diplomats and soldiers serving in the Middle...

French authorities have closed down three mosques since the Nov. 13 terrorist attacks in Paris, and there are many more to come. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve will show no mercy toward radical mosques as long as France is in a state of emergency. The third mosque was shut down Wednesday after police found "jihadist documents" during a raid east of Paris. **SNIP** "According to official figures and our discussions with the interior ministry, between 100 and 160 more mosques will be closed because they are run illegally without proper licenses, they preach hatred or use takfiri speech," El Alaoui told...
