An estate owned by Libyan strongman Moammar Khaddafy's government in an upscale northern New Jersey was vandalized Wednesday evening within hours of the leader's rambling rant at the U.N. Englewood Mayor Michael Wildes said flammable debris was left on the driveway at the estate, The Associated Press reported. Moammar Khaddafy seeks U.S. support as tensions rise in Tripoli Libya has been pressing the United States to quickly forge diplomatic relations. The reason: Libyan ruler Moammar Khaddafy wants to invite President Bush to a celebration. The celebration would be the 36th anniversary of Khaddafy's coup against the Libyan monarchy in 1969. Libya has begun to transfer the $2.7bn compensation it has agreed to pay to the families of those killed in the Lockerbie airliner bombing, US officials say. "Because it is such a large sum, it will not be deposited all at once. Some will go in tomorrow (Thursday). Some could go in Friday," an unnamed official told Reuters news agency. The cash is being paid into an account at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basle, Switzerland.
