PHOENIX (AP) - Republican John McCain spent nearly $2.5 million during a two-month period ending on Sept. 30 in his bid to win a fifth term in the U.S. Senate. The figure includes spending made near the end of his campaign against primary challenger J.D. Hayworth and as his general election race against Democrat Rodney Glassman began.
  • McCain says Tea Party concerns worth addressing (through bipartisanship with Obama after elections)

Republican Senator John McCain warned on Monday that U.S. lawmakers should respond to the concerns of the conservative Tea Party movement or else its supporters could give rise to a third political party. In an interview at the Reuters Washington Summit, McCain also said Republicans need a "positive agenda" in campaigning for the November 2 congressional election rather than simply saying no to Democratic policies. McCain, who earned a reputation as a political maverick for bucking his party, has recently swung to the right on some issues to beat back a conservative challenger in his re-election bid in Arizona. He...

I am sick and tired of this site being taken over by Catholics ( of which I am one ) stories or proverbs. This is a news site not a religion site. Go do that somewhere else. I am not opposed to your prostilazion(sp), just not here. We lose credibility if any religious group dictates or can be quoted from this site. As a long term member of this site I regret posting this information, but the site has been buried in Catholic stuff recently and it should be shunted to some separate page.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio makes a guest appearance on Roundtable Politics to explain why he believes that JD Hayworth is a better candidate for U.S. Senate than John McCain. Some of the reasons include JD's 98% 12-year lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union, and McCain's low 81% lifetime rating and history of flip-flopping, especially on illegal immigration.

PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Sen. John McCain spent another $3.6 million last month in his bid to secure re-election. He's now spent almost $20 million on the race, nearly all of it since former Congressman J.D. Hayworth began challenging him in the Republican primary earlier this year.

GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. — Times are strange for a recovering maverick. "You've been the first one who's run across the aisle," a woman seated in front of Sen. John McCain said accusingly. "Do you have a question?" he snapped. "Do you have a question, really?" "How can we believe you now if in the past you were so different?" The question could have come from any of the 150 people who filled a rec center in this retirement community 30 minutes south of Tucson. Even among loyalists, it looms. Who is the real John McCain? The 2008 Republican presidential nominee...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration says it's wrong to try to change the constitutional amendment that grants automatic citizenship to babies born in the United States. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says she's surprised that Republican congressional leaders are joining a push to reconsider the 14th Amendment instead of working with Democrats on comprehensive immigration reform.

WASHINGTON -- Barack Obama has picked up support from nearly all the Hispanics who voted for his rival Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries, giving him a nearly 3-1 lead over John McCain, according to a new poll. Results of the Pew Hispanic Center survey show Obama with 66 percent of the Hispanic vote to McCain's 23 percent. The results represent a ''sharp reversal'' in Obama's fortunes from the primaries, when he lost the Latino vote to Clinton by nearly 2-1, prompting speculation that Hispanics were leery of voting for a black candidate, said Susan Minushkin, the center's deputy director....

Underscoring the importance of the Hispanic vote, the McCain campaign is going on the air with a new ad that makes a specific appeal to the rapidly growing demographic. In the one-minute television spot, entitled “God’s Children,” Mr. McCain refers to the military service of Hispanics in wars, past and present. He asks Americans to “remember that these are God’s children. They must come into our country legally, but they have enriched our culture and our nation as every generation of immigrants before them." The ad, which will appear in Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico, features scenes of the Vietnam...

It’s no secret that John McCain is disliked in conservative circles. Whether it is because of his pro-amnesty stance on illegal immigration, his reputed hotheaded temper when dealing with interns and staffers or the media’s unexplainable fetish for covering the travels of the McCain Straight Talk Express bus, McCain has a definite problem proving to conservatives that he is one of them. The thing is, though, if you have to remind and prove to people that you’re a conservative (or a liberal, for that matter), you’re probably not one. However, for one Cincinnati radio commentator, the final nail in the Straight...
