The incumbents in every other congressional district have debated their opponents, with the exception of Rep. Betty McCollum. U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Republican challenger claimed that the first-term congresswoman has repeatedly backed out of forums and debates, making her one of the only incumbents who hasn’t participated in a debate. Republican Lacy Johnson called on Omar to agree to a debate before the Nov. 3 election in a statement issued this week. “Representative Omar’s entire time spent in Congress, in addition to her candidacy, has been plagued with scandal. Recently questions have been raised surrounding her campaign engaging in criminal...

Ex-Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson allegedly committed “shockingly violent” acts of sexual assault against his former driver, an officer who was with him on the controversial night that ultimately led to his firing last year. In a lawsuit filed late Wednesday, Officer Cynthia Donald said Johnson raped and abused her repeatedly for more than three years, and later destroyed evidence of that abuse on his cellphone when the city Inspector General was investigating his conduct.

Shuttered by COVID-19 infections, the Republican-led Senate is refusing to delay confirmation of President Donald Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court. They are even willing to make special arrangements so sick senators can vote for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, and Democrats appear powerless to stop them. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said Monday that he’ll go to the Capitol “in a moon suit” to vote if he’s still testing positive for the coronavirus, which has killed more than 209,000 Americans and infected millions. The push to put conservative Judge Amy Coney Barrett on the high court before Nov. 3 is like...

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson (Wis.) said Sunday that if Democratic nominee Joe Biden wins the presidential election next month, “America would change forever" adding that in his view, “this election is for all the marbles.” “America would change forever. This election is for all the marbles. The Senate Democrats would pack the court. They would get rid of the filibuster so they could enact all these crazy socialist… policies,” Johnson told John Catsimatidis Sunday on his radio show “The Cats Roundtable” on WABC 77 AM. The senator was referring to calls from some Democrats to add more justices to the...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. Ron Johnson says he has subpoenaed the FBI to produce documents to his committee related to the Trump-Russia investigation.

The Wisconsin senator also Monday defended a separate investigation he's leading into Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and Ukraine, even as Democrats say the probe has the effect of amplifying Russian propaganda and as U.S. intelligence officials say they've assessed that Russia is working to denigrate Biden ahead of the November election.

Two top Republican senators spearheading an investigation into the Biden family’s conflicts of interest while serving at the upper echelons of government blasted Democrats Tuesday for attempting to derail the Senate probe with fewer than 100 days until a presidential election. Congressional Democrats, desperate to shut the three-year investigation down over fears that it might damage their presidential nominee’s chance to capture the White House this fall, have launched a disinformation campaign by accusing Senate Republicans of accepting help from the Russian government, a favorite tactic. Earlier this month, Democrat leadership demanded an FBI briefing over claims of Russian intelligence...

'These attempts to discredit our investigation only serve to increase our curiosity: what are the Democrats and many in the media so afraid of us finding?' the Republican lawmakers wrote. Top Senate Republicans Ron Johnson and Chuck Grassley on Tuesday accused chamber Democrats of leaking information and spreading disinformation in an effort to discredit their investigation into national security and foreign election interference. Johnson, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Grassley, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, made their argument in letter to the top Democrats on their respective committees. The senators say their letter...

Republican senators are debating whether Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, should replace Columbus Day on the federal government's list of official holidays. A bipartisan bill sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) to make Juneteenth a federal holiday is being held up by an internal Senate GOP squabble. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), an outspoken budget hawk, doesn't want to add another paid holiday to the calendar. Johnson says if Juneteenth is made a federal holiday, another paid federal holiday should come off the schedule. He's proposing scrapping Columbus Day but is open to...

Former Conservative prime minister David Cameron lashed out at Boris Johnson today, branding his decision to axe the UK’s foreign aid department a “mistake”. In what is believed to be his first policy intervention since quitting in 2016. ex-premier Mr. Cameron joined his Labour predecessors to criticize Mr. Johnson’s decision to scrap the Department for International Development. The Prime Minister told MPs in the Commons today it will be merged into the Foreign Office to create the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, in a bid to “maximize British influence” overseas. He said the move would “unite our aid with our...

It isn’t even clear if Dallas is on the RNC’s shortlist of convention sites now that North Carolina has lost it but Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins wants to make his opinion known – he’s a firm no on the city hosting it. Jenkins cites his concern for the potential of a large gathering spreading the coronavirus. Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, also a Democrat, has not extended an invitation to the RNC to host the convention in that city, though the city bid on hosting the 2016 convention. But even if he did, Jenkins says he’s a hard no:

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, said on Sunday that he saw “total corruption” in the transition between the presidency of Barack Obama and that of Donald Trump. Speaking on “Sunday Morning Futures,” Johnson called the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 “corrupt” and slammed the media for reporting on leaked information. “What we saw was a total corruption that before, during and after this transition. It's incredibly serious,” Johnson said. “What we know is corrupt investigations, the misuse of defensive briefings, all the media leaks, and, of course, the Obama administration holdovers....

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) will force a vote next week on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to decide whether or not he has the authority to issue subpoenas as part of his investigation into the FBI's probe of 2016 Russian election meddling and the Trump campaign. Johnson, who chairs the panel, announced the committee vote for Thursday, June 4. The committee will vote on a "motion to authorize the Chairman to issue subpoenas for records and testimony to U.S. Government agencies and to individuals relating to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Crossfire Hurricane Investigation, the DOJ Inspector General's...

rom Senator Chuck Grassley and Senator Ron Johnson asking DNI Richard “Ric” Grenell to declassify and release all of the unmasking requests from January 2016 to January 2017. Results to be provided in tranches if needed. Within the letter (pdf here) the senators appear to be targeting specific dates for cross referencing with previously identified NSA database abuses. Some of their inquiry appears to be guided by ‘open source’ reporting on the issue. (see letter) This approach is very interesting because “unmasking” would be an outcome of creating some form of intelligence reporting. Perhaps a CIA report; perhaps part of...

Senators send letter to FBI Director Wray after declassified footnotes exposed new missteps in probe of Trump campaign. Two Republican Senate committee chairman demanded Thursday that FBI Director Christopher Wray turn over new materials from the bureau’s bungled Russia collusion probe after newly declassified evidence raised new questions about agents’ failure to vet a key informant. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the Senate Committee on Finance chairman, expressed concerns the investigation was tainted by "Russian disinformation." The FBI's Crossfire Hurricane investigation filed...
