PHOENIX — Civil rights groups are dropping their bid to stop police from enforcing the "papers please” provision of SB 1070, at least for the time being. Linton Joaquin of the National Immigration Law Center said it makes little sense to spend time appealing last month’s order by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton letting the law take effect. They were found in two different groups. One was found south of Mission by the river. The other two were found in a stash house north of Moorefield Road. Geneseo Police Officer Benjamin Swanson arrested Miguel Merino De-Jesus, age 24, from Mexico and Jose Sanchez, 30, from Mexico as illegal aliens on Feb. 28. When Officer Swanson stopped Merino De-Jesus on South Street for a traffic violation and he attempted to check his driver’s license, Merino De-Jesus was unable to show any identification, nor could his passenger, Sanchez. Thousands of Hispanics rally Tuesday at the state capitol in protest of dozens of so-called "Anti-Immigration" bills. With song and signs, their message to lawmakers was loud. On Sunday, a 4-year-old Mesa boy died at Phoenix Children’s Hospital from massive head trauma. On Friday, his mother left him with her boyfriend, Jorge Busso, 23, when she returned from work, she found the toddler lying in his bed, unresponsive.
